SUMMARY
£10k Bonus Race.

GFF with watering but no details given other than none overnight. Rail still out from 4.5F out to 2F out adding 12yds to the race distance. Going Stick at 8.7 reading. Medium breeze as a Quarter Headwind from the right in the Home straight.

Eve Johnson-Houghton on May 19th as part of her occasional news update = "The two year olds seem to be running really well first time out and then seem unable to back it up in their second race. Both Bling King and Bluebells were desparately disappointing in their second run and I can only hope that this is a blip and they will improve again next time."

Race played out like an average or slower pace and a 2f sprint at the end. First two home well placed and able to make the best efforts and the others making lesser efforts and some fading.

Night Angel hung right handed picking up and hampere dthe two outside her but got going quickly afterwards. The other four lacking a real leader and trundling up the rail and allowed NA to get back to them without working much and get to the lead after 2f. Got a comfortable lead after that and control the race . Produced a solid kick and would have won if the race had been up to 5.3f. Not getting home over the full 6f having run 5f LTO. Very fit and ready and little scope.

King Bling given a hold up ride FTO and an ok effort to make progress. Too fizzy in the prelims STO and made a strong effort before halfway and then fading. But, that a strong race and a solid type in review. Able to sit 2R here and well placed for the final 2f sprint. Not a real speed type and should be better 7f+. Took 1.5f+ to get 1.5L back on NA and catching her when she stalled.

Yammos in the same race as KB on debut and made the same effort to make progress before halfway and faded a bit more. Held back here and running a bit freely. Unable to match the effort of the first two but able to persist plugging on for the full 2F at the end to get through to 3rd. Smaller type and OR60s. Not Open Maiden type but along with the winner another positive to take the front of the NOTT race seriously.

Pickled Pelican a moderate odds-on favourite coming from an unproven YARM race. Notably small if neat within that and with a stout pedigree. Trainer just so-so about him in April and surprised he was getting ready to run. But, presumably some part of the pressing on due to his lack of size meaning he needs to get on with it to compete. Some excuses here losing 2-3L at the start with NA bumping him and then ran a bit freely after being able to get back to the group comfortably to the slower pace. BUT, going well enough to 2F out and just seemed to lack the effort to be effective over 6f and struggling to get to the front of the the 2R let alone match the front two.

Dana's Present another lively, free-running debut for trainer Baker (stood in the Parade Ring being interviewed whent he TV should have been showing the horses) who again spouted the guff about Excellerator being his only FTO winner. Is he training to be a politician with this spin? DPresent ended up leading the 4 on the rail early while the 3 widest sorted themselves out. Lost ground downhill looking green and a bit gawky. Okish effort until fading. Ok size in group and ok mover probably usable a bit over OR70.

Manomine look paceless in the sprint and although some positive in build will need a more staying test.

[UPDATE = Eve J-H on her website new for the day = "Bling King won at Brighton today as well. He is my first 2yo winner and it is a great relief to have got one on the board. I always thought a lot of him and having been delighted by his first run was gutted when he failed to fire at all at Nottingham last week. He seemed to get very worked up that day for some reason both in the paddock and when he got down to the start. So today we purposefully ran at Brighton where it is very easy to saddle in the yard and everything is very handy by so easy to keep horses calm. It was a Racing Post Bonus race so the owners pick up a very tidy £10,000 to put against their expenses. Also, Mum and I were so insulted by the price of 20-1 (he actually returned at 14-1) that I went and had a bank busting £10 on him between us so we are very excited by the £193 in cold hard cash we have to share between us." ]
