SUMMARY
Good going with 5.5mm of rain the previous day. Going Stick at 7.6 reading. Stalls Centre. Stiff breeze as a half Headwind from the left.

Field raced up Far Rail. Below average pace with first 4 at halfway made up of three with previous runs plus one free running, small, newcomer. The 3 with previous runs getting comfortable runs through the race and best placed for the 2f out 'sprint' for the line. Headwind seemed to have some effect with Mizbah rolling off the rail away from the wind when trying to make his effort. This left the rail open for Grand Gold who took 1.5f to get to the lead. Not an easy race to make ground with the first 9 through halfway within less than 3L of the lead and only Night Flash a bit behind through greenness. First 7 home only separated by 5L to make the point of the pace not really stretching the field out.

Grand Gold scrubbed along both previous runs and taking time to get going before an ordinary finishing effort. More competent, or willing, here and able to sit 2R on the rail. Left with a clear run on the rail here and produced his normal effort. That enough to finally wear down Mizbah but looking moderate form overall and he would be some form of lower OR70s nursery type.

Mizbah anonymous on debut and an ordinary physical type and some form of OR70s. Unable to win here despite having a comfortable lead and best placed for the sprint. A little unbalanced in front in the sprint and didn't stop so should stay ok. But, a 'Northern Maiden' type rather than anything better and might end up a placer.

Maastricht a pounding action and medium sized. Another to have every chance and below OR75 and some form of placer type unless he can improve for 7f+.

More interest in some behind for the future. Loyal Master the first string for his connections and a likeable size and type. Green at times and running wide (sheltered side) but ok progress to 4th going forward at the finish. Trainer's only 2yo winner in 3 seasons with a few reps was 3rd FTO at 80/1 (OR80+ Henderson Park) and most debuts uncompetitive. In that set-up a 4th here closing up to 3 runners for major stables with previous runs looking the best physical type looks promising.

No interest in the smaller Twin Ivan who probably showed a lot of what he can do. RBrianna more interesting and the worst puller behind the pace and never really setled. Able to make a solid effort that got her past the winner inside 2F. Faded late on as would be expected from her earlier pulling. Taller, narrow type and not real OR75 but competitive in Northen Maidens if she settles and a stronger jockey would help.

James Given normally starts with a few 5f debuts an these will normally be the few competitive 2yos he has and include most, often all, of the winners. The rest of his debuts normally a long tail on garbage and 3yo staying set-ups with the rare winner mixed in. Night Flash his first debut and a bit late and at 6f. The reason for starting at 6f now with NF seemed to be that the trainer thinks he might be usable in the 7f Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot (qualified by Sire). This run a trial to see whether that was worthwhile. A bit bigger than the average here but too green to compete. Enough response in the last 2F to think he should be OR70+ usable. Trainer has first 5f debut 2 days later.

Bryan Smart's debut runners have been uncompetitive overall this year and the early ones were poor. Well Wishes a taller & narrower filly who, typically for the trainer, ran too freely at times and then a bad fade. Might be usable so track NTO.
