SUMMARY

SHV from G two days prior. Meeting on previous evening abandoned during the afternoon after extended period very heavy rain. Going Stick reading from 07:30am. Meeting passed an 07:00am inspection. Carlisle, Leicester & Nottingham meetings scheduled for day abandoned on Thu/Fri.

Rail at Maximum Width. Medium to Stiff Easterly Wind = Close to Direct Tailwind in the home straight uphill.

YIcon running a more competent race but still with niggles. Duffield blog after the race = "Yorkshire Icon needed two handlers (one to deal with the monty roberts rug in the stalls). Alec went racing in my place once it became clear time was fast running out for me to get the horses worked in time to then get to Beverely for the first race. Happily Yorkshire Icon won his maiden race well, debutant By A Wiska ran a solid race from which he will improve markedly, especially once he gets better ground under his feet. "

As ever in racing the details get washed out to make everything seem higher class than it is. This wasn't a 'Maiden' (several quality levels within that name) off WFS weights but a low quality auction race. Thin race on profile and does not seem a race to be looking for future prospects in. Note that Surround Sound got into an extended bumping match with Trymyluck at the start and lost ground and position and the jockey perhaps wanting to ge this own back when restarting the bumping to 3F out. Which mean SS might hav ebeen closer to Notional Demand who was wearing the 2nd colours and got an efficient path through the race. But, also an improved effort by ND who was hanging on debut and never travelling STO on HV. Better here able to run unhassled in the lead and kept responding to the winner's challenge to the line.
