FGF from GGF 2 days prior. Going Stick Reading from 07:30am. Light to Medium SSE Wind = Quarter Tailwind from left in the home straight. Hannon jockeys = Levey (GoC), O'Shea (LCalantha) & McDonald (Rafale) Stiff pace and very fast conditions with the tailwind. Also worth noting that there were fast times put up as 3-4 courses ont he day. One consistent factor on those times was Fast ground brought on by a short warm spell after weeks of Softer going. Fast ground with a cushion base allowing horses to stretch out fully and record the times? Tailwind here another factor. Trainer Hannon in prickly mood when doorstepped in the Winners' enclosure. Said Rafale needed further and only just got up to win here having been last early on and niggled along for most of race. Stiff pace with leaders folding assisting the win? Only closer but field strectched early and most of others behind first 6 under pressure anyway and having to close into a fast time. Complexity effectively hauled out of the race early by jockey Callan perhaps because they did not want him to run freely. A bit green around halfway and some vague niggling from the jockey. Hung left inside 2F out when a gap open he could have gone for and rolled back over to the rail and jockey packed it in. Jockey then eased hiom when he was clear leader of the pack behind the 1st 7 who were pulling clear and lost two places unnecessarily. NPIR and overdoing the 'Educ Intro'. |
