Stiff ENE Wind = Quarter Headwind from the Right. Last race on Card an App Handicap won in 73.53s by an OR69 4yo (by 2.5L) carrying 4lbs less. Mixed Pace with HM leading on the rail and setting a solid pace for 1F+ then settling the Pace to just past halfway. This lull allowed the slow starters - notably Birdman & Tuffan who bumped soon after the break (Tuffan at fault) and then got unbalanced and lost 6-7L. Pair only 3-4L back at halfway and making ground in the lull. HM then wound the pace up from 2.5F out and turned race into 2F+ effort at the finish. Extended nature of prominent racers effort meant TG to some extent and notably Birdman then closing up a little in the last 0.5F having not been able to go with the leading trios efforts at 2F out for different reasons. Check how leading horses go NTO to see whether the rating is a bit too high. Race has a mixed record and sometimes just has horses with pevious form from lesser stables and a late OR70s Hannon one. This edition a more interesting field with Heavy Metal better than the average 'previous form' runner and Threes Grand more typical. 4 x newcomers an interesting group with all Arab owned and 2 expensive buys with younger NMKT trainers looking to move forward. Hannon can run OR80+ ones in the race and his 2011 pair both finished the season as Group winners after following different development paths. Clive Brittain in a period when he might start a usable one although the better types tend to show up well FTO. Tuffan only his second runner and a poor run suggesting the stable is at the 'Late' end of it's season readiness range. Poor run by Tuffan and a medium one at OR70ish at best perhaps. Heavy Metal has blossomed from his Brocklesby fade when helping to press a strong pace. Two wins with controlled and professional front-running efforts and showing balance and a good nodding action here. But, despite the nous advantage, being able to run his own race and having the rail he did not really separate himself from the best of the newcomers and presumably has less scope to improve. Entered for some Group races but on balance likely to prove below that level. Good effort from Rising Legend as a Hannon FTO and gave HM a start and produced a similar effort in the last 2F. Presumably an OR85+ one. Birdman expensive for his pedigree and a medium one with strong quarters. Slow start and that compounded by being bumped by Tuffan. Switched to the rail from wide during the lull (XB). Took some time to get going in the last 2F after getting unbalanced but plugging on back to the leaders up the rail at the finish. Presumably OR75+ but see how he goes STO rather than looking to support. More interest STO in Hajam who got unbalanced and or faded in the last 1F which his his overall solid promise. Like previous debuts for new trainer Tate race prominently and a bit wide and showing pace but lacking some nous and not finishing the race off. His only STO runner turned into a pressing front-runner on the second outing. Hajam bigger type and flashy but not fully fit and a bit 'babyish' overall. Produced a similar effort to the first 2 home at 2F out and the last 1F makes his 'form' reads worse than his promising performance (BTR). May well be at a value price STO if in a maiden with enough substance to provide strongish looking opposition. If he turns up at Brighton with a mixed bag of hope-for-weak-race lesser ones the value is not going to be there. |
