Stiff to Strong SSW Wind = Three-Quarter Tailwind from Left in Home Straight. First meeting back after Course totally relaid with new mixture of Polytrack. Less rubber chunks, more fibres, different amount of binding wax and so on. Both the supplier and the course management interviewed at times before the day and stressing that it will be a learning process preparing and maintaining the course. Watch for Centre/ Rail biases, track riding deep and slow, and so on. With a usable pace the leading 4 at halfway best placed to contest the win and looked hard for those behind to make ground int he straight with the Tailwind, Pira Palace looked improved effort LTO and on her limit to win here from Tarbawi with pair clear as Alcando just holding his relative position from halfway and Cut No Ice fading back a bit early int he straight before a slight rally in the last 1F. Pira Palace racing Centre track in Straight and Tarbawi on Far Side. Hard to say an obvious CS but PP did win in Centre Track. With the first 4 at halfway finishing race off many of those held up out of race before 1F had been run. Hughes in confident mood after 10 winners in previous 2 days and 45 clear in Championship held Jubilee Diamond well back from a wide draw and 9L back after 2F. Then made ground downhill as Cut No Ice settled the pace and 5th perhaps 3L+ back coming to the turn 2F out. That tactic often good before track reworking and would put the horse in good place to make a run in Centre track down the CS and make the left turn less sharp and retain mor momentum. Not testing here with Jubilee Diamond hanging right when asked for effort and getting a bit unbalanced and the 1st 4 breaking clear because of the usual 'elastic' effect off a usable pace. Evoke also held back early and then seemed to resent the kickback and last driven along after 2F so never in the race. Khefyn drawn wider and lost even more ground being held back from the widest draw. Never really travelling well and driven along on the turn before 2f out. Royal Aspiration free early in leading line then held back to midfield. Seemed to be travveling ok on turn to straight if too far back to get involved. But, moderate effort once into straight and less than he promised. Which left Reliant Robin & Extrasolar to plug on to close up a bit on the front 4 in the last 1F but starting from too far back. |
