GFF from GF on decs. Watering as Fri 8mm, Mon 5mm & Tue Eve 5mm to last 5f of HS. GStick 10:00am Rail Out by 3m. 25DegC. Medium to Light SSE Wind = 3/4 Tailwind from Right. Hughes rides Travis Bickle for brother-in-law Kirk, Dobbs rides Midnight Rambler & Kirby on Maymyo (talked up in 213). Looked like a real Stands' Rail Bias Day. Supposed to be GFF but horses racing way from the rail kicking up Strip Divots for much of the race. Horses close to the rail only the odd divot. It seemed visibly obvious there was a difference. Since the course uses a 'Supported Boom' watering system you could add the fact that the Boom doesn't water the edges, or not as much, as the centre to other plausible reasons. Like the wight of the Boom compacting the ground under the tyres which brush along the rail. Be great if a group of Low draws "did a RIPN" & belted down the Far Rail together to test some of the hypotheses. In the context of racing Centre a nugative anbd controlling the race on the lead and the rain - Amargo put up a strong effort in a thin race. Didn't stand out but go behind with greenness first 1.5f when he XB'd then was taken back out to centre track again, bumping the floundering Maymyo on the way. You wonder at times if the Godolphin jks ever study how tracks ride. How many Godolphin 2yos have run down the Centre of the track here? Meanwhile jks like Moore & Hughes are doing whatever's needed to get to the rail. Midnight Rambler given one of 'Hughes' rides for a Refusnik, by Dobbs, and getting busy with the whip when adrift. |
