SUMMARY
16DegC. Light to Medium SW Wind = Slight Tailwind from Left HS.

Low Temps on Day & only 12Deg at NEWC. Previous day had been the Warmest Sept day since 2006 in much of the SE. 29DegC in many places and odd 30DegC recorded.

Be interesting to know where Bombardment's time rating in the Breeze ups. Suspect a faster one. Partly because he is rousted along and going full on before the final 1f. On the plus side he does finish the last 1f off. Mdm Sz with some length and ok build. But prob lower scope and complete mdm already? Runs str & flat and ok speed & bal. Extravagant action in Fr.

Hannon jks = Dobbs (Glebe Spirit), O'NeillD (Dover The Moon) & Hanagan (Mutamakkin).

Charlton Website pre-race = "In the following race Laugharne makes his debut for Barry Hurley. He is a son of Authorized and a half brother to Rosie Probert and Clowance House who both stayed well. He will appreciate up to twelve furlongs in due course." Picture sort of 1/2 ok. Front half ok Dp & strong if Nk a bit Long. Lengthy but tails aware to narrow Hip bhd. Too slow here, even at 8f? Looks like a slower 12f galloping devt project as advertised. If with scope to be 70s al.

Quietly Bizarre Race. Watch the first 1.5f of this race, for the first time, after you have seen the result and final time with distances and you would be confused. If you aren't looking at the wrong race how on earth did Adventure Seeker win? At the top of the list of questions. A proper 'Ride of the Day', or whatever, from Buick in that he took some key decisions to engineer the win and not out of the pedestrian 'Race Riding by Numbers' annual that most subscribe to. A slow Break and pick-up and he's last and prob 10L off lead after 1F. Considers drop to rail at back but pace slows (presumably) so takes the decision to go foward instead wide on track and he's in the lead well before the end of the BS. He then quietly elbows over to the rail to the bend and the other jks roll over to let it happen again. Once in the lead he then ups the pace on the crown of the bend as the field has lined out in pairs over 11-12L. Which means everything outside the first 6 have had it and are out of the race.

Fallon on Bombardment also makes a slow start from a wide draw and his hrs a bit green and need driving a bit to get going. Horse then gets the message and pulls himself forward around the outside during the same time as Adv Seeker but a bit more slowly and gets overtaken. Whereas the AS move looked like Buick taking his chance to get back into the race the Bombardment move looked like Fallon being unable to hold the horse and it running too free. But Bombardemnt able to XF to the bnd to join AS on outside. Meanwhile, Moore on Rochambeau makes a belting start from a wide draw but immediately hauled him all the back, to the back, mindless STO stuff. Barzalona on Kingdom's Call completes the set of slow wide starters and alongside Bombardment early but tiny Barzalona stays out the back on KC and out of the race.

Race develops into a 2F sprint with Adventure Seeker best placed. Bombardment looking a bit smaller IC to confirm Brz VT view and a bit oupaced-2f, but po and Still 5th-1f then Fallon gets tired and loses the last 3-4 places by pulling the horse up well before the line. A dangerous, in at least 2 different ways, habit he's been allowed to get away with for years by the stewards. Not much else happens in the first 6 with Lunar Spirit fading late to lose places (prob still 2nd-1f. Plus Laugharne taking time to get going but finishing ok if still stalling at Line.

Other interest in how the pair at the back fared in trying to get back the enormous head-start to the others their jks had lumbered them with. Kingdom's Call making a good job of closing down the wide outside. An unusual extended effort and still going fwd at line. But, he does in in an ugly manner. Takes time to get going-2f+ and looking green but with his head held high. Head never comes down and moves so stiffly it's a bit painful to watch. But he is grinding fwd. But, a coin toss whether he will run properly STO or whether he will already have gone over the top and his spring gone boing like other tightly wound Godolphin 2yos.

Rochambeau hangs left off bend and baffling to then seem Ryan Moore urgently pressing the horse to go forward and then gets the whip out. If you are that keen to compete on the day why haul the horse out of the race at the back? Finish the job properly and skulk around at the back pretending to be riding, please. Rochambeau alongside Kingdom Call coming to -2f but only a brief effort and lokking green before hangs a bit and stalls.

This snippet from Rowalands Sect TImes blog = "There was a fairly big sectional eye-catcher in the second race in the form of fourth-placed Kingdom's Call, who was hopelessly green but still ran the last 3f easily quickest (about 35.55s) and can be rated best in the race. A mediocre overall race time is the only thing that tempers enthusiasm slightly. Runner-up Laugharne (36.15s) and seventh-placed Rochambeau (36.05s) were next quickest and almost joined Kingdom's Call on the sectional to follow list." He often gets sniffy about people not using sectional times, includining those try to infer race pace form Run Styles, but Hf vs Final positions highlights nearly every 'Eyecatcher' he fingers while also putting things in a greater race context. His 'debriefs' don't include any of the race story or comments on individ horses either (say similar to those above). That is before you add in Paddock Review and VPs to complete a 'Race Story'. Always worth learning that doing something more than the average punter (a flick through the Sectional Times, for eg) is a VERY EASY undertaking. The standard is so low and the Data so poor any competent schoolkid with the right encouragement could beat the average. It's probably worth realising that getting sniffy isn't useful anyway and certainly not until you have pushed your own approach as far as it will go and moved on to add other items. The really clever bit, which non-one had managed in any sphere, let alone a backwater like racing, is working out how to bypass the Sloth and Mediocrity that is built in to Humans' knowledge desire and processing. Advertisers and Marketeers drawing on psychological Research have probably made progress with that. But only to hi-jack the sytem to get their preferred message across. How do you reset the sytsems to 'Require Better Knowledge & Analysis'.
