GGF from G on Decs. GStick 10:30am as 8.0 Cent, 8.1 Stds, 8.2 FrSd (But don't say where stalls are with the Far Side Track in use).

17DegC. Light to Medium Easterly Wind = 1/4 Headwind from Left.

Hughes rides Gold Top, QuinnJ on The Alamo.

Safety Check setting a similar slower pace to opening Mdn but this race run down Stds rail with 1st 2 home on rail for most of race. With 3 x Slow starters who never really got balanced or close to slower pace and Hughes holding Gold Top off the pace (and taking it easy when not really picking up) this doesn't have feel of a very competitive event.

This even had 1f Times on-screen and all for Safety Check, with no relaying, and would be useful to be able to compare to opening maiden (where winner was 0.09s slower than this one but was eased down by 2-3L late when clear). Timings here don't suggest a slower pace (?check), but the last 1f is uphill but 14.22 seems slow anyway.

Which shows MTW & SCheck achieved similar times in Different ways. MTW 0.55s down after 2F = say 2-3VLen. MTW as much as 1.09secs Slower to Hf so Safety Check setting a stiffer time racing on a different part of the track. MTW another -0.07s slower for 5th 1f so 1.16s down after 5f. Pace starting to tell on Safety Check now and last 3F his slowest since 1st 1f and big steps down for 7f & 8f. MTW ran the 6th 1f as his fastest and the 7th 1f (as he pulled clear) similar to his times for 2nd-4th Furs. Prob could have run last 1f 0.25s faster but for being eased.

Having got well behind Touch The Clouds and Carthage ran the last 3F in similar times and, unsurprisingly, given the visual Closing in the last 1f they ran the fastest & 3rd fastest last 1Fs of either race as 12.97s & 13.08s Divisional ran 13.03s separating himself from the pack to clear 2nd in last 1f and seeing the last 1f out well..
