This the First Race of the Card and went off 20 minutes late after an "impromptu Inspection" to see whether the course was fit to race after heavy rain during the am and into the afternoon. Text of Stewards' Enquiry report below. Note that the dolling off actually means having the inside Rail Out by about 10yds from-3f to into the HS. HV by Race Time. SHV from SGS by Noon after 9mm of Rain by then and still raining.. SGS as on Decs. But Reported as starting 09:30am and forecast to continue to 13:00pm. 2mm of Rain on Sun. GStick 06:30am as 6.8. 5.8 by Noon. 15DegC. Stiff to Medium Southerly WInd = 3/4 Headwind from Right Uphill, 1/4 Headwind from Right HS. Ragged Race in some ways because field racing away from Rail and drifting to Centre track by Hf. Hard for horses to XB or drop-in with field shape changing and delays as some horses race wide then others follow and sharp bend at 6f out adding to issues. LdgLn of 4 by+3.5f in Centre track from inside as Victory Danz, Madame Mirasol, The Wallace Line and Musical Molly with Native Falls pulling up to join then around Hf. Pace settled by then and more organisation and some stacking. Field drifting over to be Cent-StdsSd by-2.5f with Natic Falls taking the lead about 6 Lanes off Wd RL and Musical Molly resp. NFalls seemed to be going ok. Presumably going so wide also to avoid dolled off False Ground? Firecruise Racing closest to Cent at this point and racing shortest path on Bend to HS. But then veered across in HS in clear lead to be on the Stds' RL-1f+, Whole field racing Stds Sd in HS. Feedback from 1-2 days after Meeting = Hanagan interviewed at YARM on Tue asked about how Soft ground was riding said it was ok and the horses were getting through. Then unprompted added that is was nothing like as bad as PFCT the previous day. This bit from Mark Tompkins Website on Tue = "We only ran Astrowolf yesterday at Pontefract, as the ground turned to heavy. In fact it was nearly un-raceable and consequently, I took Barwick out of the last. Joe Fanning told us it was far worse than Catterick on Saturday and that really, they shouldn’t have been racing. ". SEnq Report = "The Stewards held an enquiry following an inspection which was held prior to the first race as a result of concerns as to the safety of the track from three furlongs out to two furlongs out. They interviewed riders Joe Fanning, Robert Winston and P J McDonald (also Safety Officer), trainers Bryan Smart, George Moore and Kristin Stubbs, the Veterinary Officer, Clerk of the Course and a Representative of the Course Executive. Having considered their evidence the Stewards were satisfied that, by dolling off the area of false ground from three furlongs out to two furlongs out, racing could continue. ". |
