SUMMARY
S as on Decs.

Stone Roses works with Ho Yam Lay (unplaced debut) & White Vin Jan in May 12th Work Video. Runs alongside HYL for whole work and perhaps goes a bit better. Most notable part of the work whough is that WVJan makes up 5L from start of work and seems to go better than the other pair. [Hope the identification isn't wrong and SR & WVJan are actually the other way around in the VT]. Post Race = makes more sense and the identification is wrong. Stones Roses is the filly making 5 lengths on HYL & WVJ in the work video and in this 'better' race and looking ok in PRev. White Vin Jan declared for the fillies' auction race at NWBY the following day.

One of those moments that get selectively highlighted to 'prove' the Law Of Sod. Make a specific note of how uncompetitive the C Appleby 2yos have been FTO so far in 2014, and tweak the algorithm, and the next debut will win. But how much of this win down to the better quality of Bitter Lake and how much down to a lesser and winnable race? How do the next 10 debuts go? Looking for another thread to the story the 5 x Appleby debuts that have made the first 3 in 8+ fields so far in 2014 (of 16 goes) then 3 at NMKT/NMKJ, 1 at ASCT & 1 at NOTT where Godolphin had three of the 8 runners. Crisford, before he was disappeared, used to say they tried to start the better 2yos at the Top Tracks and perhaps this is Appleby's preferred way. And the better ones can make the first 3 on debut in middling quality maidens or worse just on raw ability.

Halfway to Final Positions tell a lot of the story of the Shape of the Race. The two fillies on STO running prominently with Hughes on Kinematic taking the initiative to go to an early lead on the rail and control the pace to suit him. Spencer & Looking Good behind him. With a slower pace after the initial postion setting the jks on the 3rd to 5th at Hf made foward moves to sit 2R & front Midfield. SR, NA & AOR ending up in the last 3 places at halfway after fading back in the last 0.5f from their 2F out efforts. The two on STO fit enough to plug on to finish 2nd & 3rd but not the 2nd/3rd best fillies for the longer term. 3 of the last 4 fillies at Hf came with 'Eyecatching' late runs in relative terms when judged again the faders. HM, HFhollywood & Lashkaal all getting going late to overhaul the last 3 home late on. How much were those eyecatching finishes worth in absolute terms?

Meanwhile Bitter Lake seemed to show 'Something Different' in saving Barzalona from looking somewhat inept. Trapped in near the rail behind horses towards 2F out and BL switches right to get a clear run. Produces something that looks like quickening 1.5f out and a strong finish overall. The zip outrunning her size in PRev. A slow time but two lower 70s marker fillies in 2nd/3rd who had already run look like a solid pair to judge BL's effort against. Kicking clear of the other 3 in rear at halfway worth what?
