SUMMARY
SGS from S on Decs. Outer Track in use.

Picture of Field at Halfway. Note how much of Task Mubtaghaa has been set by being held up in rear on the outside. The pace usable and One Moment on the rail in the lead notably professional in prelims and in the race and getting a soft time pacesetting on the rail.

Interesting Paddock and a relatively simple one because four of the field of 6 could be discounted on their presentation in the Prelims. On PRev the race looked a straight contest between Mubtaghaa & One Moment as STOs with solid debut runs behind them and ready for the day. As the picture shows Mubtaghaa set a stiff task partly because of a slow start and partly because he started running too freely before halfway. This picture shows him going TP with his head down and forward trying to find an angle where the jk cannot use the bit properly to discourage the pulling.

Made a solid job of making the 4L+ back by just inside the last 0.5f. But doing it in stages and not in a manner to suggest he is better class. Some progress in the 2F+ Creep Zone, then a solid effort in the penultimate furlong to close to about 1L down. But, then just a solid plugged on to wear down OM and fading himself by the line. Looks around an 84 type on PRev and the best muscled and readiest here. A medium one with a solid build and above average athleticism.

One Moment as advertised in being an unusually lengthy one and looks nothing like a typical compact (short backed) 5f sprinter. Looking at her without knowing about her KTNA debut and you would be wondering how her set-up was going to work for 5f. But she moves fine and the range in her movement becomes a positive. A solid size for a filly and very mature, relaxed and professional. For obvious reasons when you look at the pictures that make her back end look lightly made you worry about her power levels. But, if allowed to get into a rhythm on a flat & straight course she takes some catching. Should be low to mid-70s and interesting what movement she shows on firmer going.

The other four all dicountable the the Day but all ok to various levels for the future. The biggest surprise was Emirates Challenge who was, tick them off the list, not fit enough, sweating nervously, frothing at the mouth, long periods of 'Gone Inside' attitude, only showing some life to start wailing and wanting to go back out of the gate to the stable she came in through and a coat in poor condition. No different once saddled. If you have spent years seeing Godolphin debuts (and Loder, etc, before that) wired tight for debut, fizzy attitudes and clambering over things, dazzling coats, fitness lines on each buttock you could park your bike in and so on you shake your head and wonder what is going on? Appleby has clearly taken a more Educ Intro route but has Saeed gone the same way now he can make his own decisions and doesn't have someone 'On High' telling him to boil-the-thing-dry for debut (allegedly, because they want to know how good it is 'NOW').

Whatever, hard to judge Emirates Challenge in this state and anyone would like another go at rating her 'When you've finished it..'. Smaller one but deep and solid build in front. Movement very hard to judge given her readiness. Probably need further then 6f and should be 75+ but one to check STO to see if she looks a completely different horse. Gleaming coat, deep fitness lines, prancing around and clambering up walls and handlers. That sort of thing so we all know where we are.

Here are two pictures of Grazed Knees, the first from his LEIC debut and the second here just over 1 month later.

He arrives late and the immediate reaction is he looks interesting for the day. He has grown and has a terrific bright attitude. He wanders around the ring looking like an escapee from the Hannon Farm in his orange Aussie noseband allied to his colouring and build. Why on earth is he 25/1? On Paddock Review the problem you would see is that while he has grown he doesn't look fit enough. At the circumstantial level this is a Fretwell 2yo so they may only want it to win when they back it? Which would mean using a race with a 4/11 favourite in it only makes sense for two reasons. Firstly if they think they have one that can beat it and it makes their price. Or, because then they can tell everyone GK is not that good and use this as a development race. But GK a solid size and over 75 and say a 77 one for nurseries and see how he looks fully fit. Perhaps a pity for Fretwell that GK showed so much of his ability here before getting tired.

Looking at the Paddock the feeling occured that Mubtaghaa, GK and Speed Machine had similar sizes and frames, and shapes to some extent. All with minor variations against each other but all 75+ to some level. Would have been nice to have the 3 of them lined up together. That didn't happen but here are 2 pictures of then going TP together to try to judge. (Right Click on the picture to link to the Full Sized Version).

Head on GK looks a bit bigger in Picture one but Mubtaghaa a bit more power looking side on (also in other pictures). GK's likeable pright attitude still there. What about Speed Machine? The second picture seems to clearly show he's a bit taller and more powerful than the other two. Again, the question of why is he 50/1 when he is solidly over 75 on looks? As with EC his attitude is a problem from the minute he appears. Again, he works through a checklist of green and unhelpful behaviour. Calling, fizzy and prancing, colty, whipping round and/or standing still for no reason often standing face on to the handler defiantly, refuses to be saddled in a box, takes ages to do outside, goes half berserk when the travelling lady tries to swill his mouth with water and a sponge. Given all that he looks to behaving ok TP. But then not looking willing in later race and the jk giving lots of neck slaps 1F out with little positive response. Discountable for the day on attitude but not a 50/1 shot going forward. A good size and moves ok and has scope to develop. 75+ and could be 80+ but need to see some signs that he is more compliant, or been gelded or whatever.

Using the always-worry-about-horses-called-my-little-treasure RULE, because they are usually too small to be even mildly interesting, then a horse called Little Belter is starting to get an alarm bell dusted off. Look at his picture as a 1yo and the insistent noise has started. He is very late to saddling alone and you can hear him calling from 100s of yards away as he approaches. BUT, then he turns up and he isn't fit enough and clearly too daft and lacking nous to compete to win but he is an Ok size. See pictures below as a 1yo and here :-

He looks an ok chunky sprinter shape if lacking a bit of size and power against the 3 x bigger lads. But should be 70+ and a promising enough run here until he got tired.
