GF as on Decs. Stalls Centre. Red Springer looking a bit bigger than expected on the gather portion of his Breeze Video given the buying team who like small chunky ones. Looks smaller when angle changes and does a straight Breeze. But seems to hold his head up and out and not finishing the breeze. Some pace but something not quite right with with the movement in front. Quite possibly only one real 75+ horse in the race and that was Indescribable THe Orange Teenager announced immediately after the win that he 'defied anyone' to say they had seen any promise in the horse's first 2 runs and this win a surprise. If you just read the Form Book it might be a surprise and if you just rely on shortcutting and Bluffers' Guids (as the Pundit does) it will certainly be mystifying. Look at racing in different ways and put some effort in and the win was 'expected' to some level. Hugh knew it, among others. Indescribable the best type in the field but has been too lary in the prelims and either green or too fired up in the races. A Lost Debut can mean any quality for MaJo and STO he ran very well but too fiercely to get to the lead at CHES and then drive the pace too hard. He made a good effot and only a late fade hid that promise in a 'light' reading of the Form Book. Still fizzy in the prelims here and racing too freely in front. But over 5.2f here with a fast surface compared to 6.1f on GSS STO. He would have been battling to be Baitha Alga's runner up at CHES STO after 5.2f had been run. Indescribable just too good for the others here when given a comfortable lead and winning despite diving left when a pointless hit from the whip saw him react that way. He was running straight until the Whip and a good example of why the mindless 'Hitting by Numbers' approach drilled into British jks has a lot of adverse effects (to add to the unproven 'benefits' it may or may not bring). A sub 75 race behind the winner and probable that the three 70+ ones didn't finish 2nd-4th. Zuzinia ought to be around 70 and ran competently and another of that very long string of smaller ones Channon has he will win something with by persistence. One of them will surprise by improving to rate 80+ in absolute terms and 95+ in Fantasy OR measures. Siren's Cove & Foxtrot Knight in 3rd-4th look suspect small ones who never got into the race. They made late ground, for full rides into faders and more quietly ridden ones. Both are small and look 50s leak 60s and ones to oppose if they make the Market for something else based ont his form. Trainer Tate interviewed before the race and noted SCove was small and though she had a pedigree for 7f+ he was trying 5f because she had shown some 'speed' at home. You could also read that as getting a small and limited on going because waiting for the longer distances races is just going to leave her further behind the WFA scale given her size. FKnight looking like a nursery project as trainer Stevens restarts running his 2yos. Boyce & Weaver locked in the ATR Studios about as insightful in regards to the race as they would be tasked with explaining the Higgs' Field. With one brief exception where they came perilously close to suggesting Spencer had overdone the sitting-at-the-back tactics on Burning The Clocks. Hauling BTC out of the race after an ok break. You wonder if looking at the historical figures for what position 2yo race winners< over 5-6f typically are at Halfway, and how far in Visual Lengths back from the leader might stop Spencer. But, if he hasn't learned by now it probably isn#t going to happen. BTC a low 70s one but had to use his effort to make progress into the general increses in pace in the last 2F+ and done a solid job to get to be challenging 3rd before a fade in the extended part of this 5.2f. If he had been sitting 2R and produced the same effort he might well have been 2nd. As ever the Prince has some previous that comes to mind and trainer C-Hyam should try watching the tape of the ride Hasbah got here each time he is tempted to book Frank. Black Granite a small one and working up to nurseries. Barchan an early season PRev blunder and obviously a smaller one when seen here. Also looking in poor coat condition and lethargic. Ajtebi riding and a brief bit of pulling but an early fade. Stone Roses looking low 70s in this group and mid 70s. But, ran better than her final position again with a last 0.5f fade meaning she was 8th again. The only one who tried to go with the winner as that one ran freely early. Ran freely herself and a solid effort until starting to hang then get unbalanced in the last 0.5f. Better than she has shown so far. Trainer McCabe always comes across as a bit too intense and as if he isn't that far away from losing his rag. Got as close to Humour as he seems to here when suggesting to the Orange Teenager that Red Springer should go well at 66/1. Deadpan stuff most likely to suit. Said RS had been ill after the Breeze sale and they usually gave Breeze buys time to settle down and learn how to race 5f+ before they run them RS a smaller one and typical of the type McCabe and his agent buy. Did not seem to have learnt a lot about racing yet and dropped after Hf and not able even to hint at his possible usable 60s type. When you look at McCabe's record with 2yos, including a Winners to Runners %age often down at 5% and occasionally getting to 33% would you want to advertise the fact you were the Bloodstock mastemind behind that performance. |
