GFG from G on Decs. 1mm of Rain overnight. Field raced Centre and a Slower Pace. Despite that the 2f Efforts at the finish seemed to spread the field out mostly sorted by basic Ability Levels at the finish. Why the 20/1 win with Calypso Beat? Looked like a mix of things. She ran in Headgear FTO and seemed to be supported but in a weak KTNA Market. She did a lot of things wrong in the race and looking some mix of clueless and unwilling. She looked a slower one but racing around a bend when green probably not helping that effect. Her pedigree is higher class 5-6f speed but her length makes her look, and probably actually, slower. But, in this group she competed for being the biggest. Added to that she got an easy lead up front and carrying 7lbs less than anything else with an A7 on. On a straight track and unhustled by others she seemed to get into a rhythm and using her length to stride ok. The A7 probably assisted with the 20/1 (held down the PRF further) but in an easy and non-technical race it was less weight for free mostly. Rolling along here she wins in a slower time but perhps ok for 70+. So part of the reason for the 20/1 win was that CB has more ability and size than FTO suggested and snapped into shape as a mostly professional racer. But, the 20/1 win also seemed to be assisted by the opponents being a lesser group and perhaps only Shahralasal competing to be a 75 one. Typically ready FTO for Varian and had every chance to go by CB. But seemed unable to, partly because she is smaller and neater, and partly because she never really put her hed down and got on with it. Head up and out with that looking being green & not any attittude issue. Looking willing enough. Ought to be mid-70s at least but not a certain maiden converter STO on this effort. Taaqah a bit taller int he group but a little narow bodied and not that neatly made. Able to get to the first two int he last 2F but hanging right throughput and never really moving forward. Which seems a bit of a negative tot he other two that Taaqah close up going part sideways. Another one not appealing as a certain 75+ converter on power and movement needs fixing. As with Shahralasal, the reliable trainer and the fact they will pick an appropriate level for STO means they may well win but needing assistance from a lesser field. Rather than being certainties to overpower whatever filed they meet. Check where each goes STO. Which means with being less than whelmed by the first 3 the gaps back to 4th+ do not seem a good sign. Finial running for a ready FTO trainer and went that way attending the pace ok and being int he right place to make her effort. But looking a bit smaller and neat even in this field. Left behind by the first three but that assisted by Taaqah giving her a bump as that one hung right. Might be 60s and not one to expect to win a solid Open Maiden. Appleby may be doing easy debuts and Pulcinella green in various ways through the race. But, ever cutting her some slack for that she didn't do anything to suggest there is a 75+ one in there. Smaller but a bit better built than some in the field. Even though green the effort in the last 2f looked laboured. With this a slower pace and the front 5 not appearing to be strong form you then souldn't be expecting much from the 6 who got dropped and left behind. Maybe Now Baby of some vague interest because she was the greenest and managed to get back to 6th from last at one point. But, another smaller one and not showing anything int he last 2f to suggest 70+. Oud Malakiy running next to the Taaqah for a lot of the race and notably smaller and more narrow than thst narrower one. Larch only of the vaguest interest because of Hannon. Medium in this field and running too free. Soon losing ground in the last 2f and not stretching out, looking upright in front. A vague note to check if she ever sorts that out. Perhaps in a nursery, perhaps on softer going. Seamoor Secret & Whoopie Do small and underpowered ones of no interest and SS looking on the tiny side in this group. Finishing behind them clearly a negative for Hawkin and she needs some big excuses for that. She was probably the most green on show and the jk knocked off early just inside the 2f out post are some excuse. But, looking a smaller one lacking power anyway. MNBaby was green but had enough oomph to at least haul herself past some of the compromised ones. |
