SUMMARY
GGF from G on Decs. No Watering.

£10,000 Bonus race and good editions in 2012-13 with raft of Open Maiden winners finishing in front. 2011 a bit more patchy and this version more like that one? Mix of physical types.

Firgrove Bridge a smaller medium one but with ok length and deep in front. Trainer better types usually win FTO but FB just looking a solid 70s one (?). Won by running competently and wearing down the smaller Red Connect. Baffling to see why RC would be favourite give his lower quality form and lack of size and scope. This race a good example of why sub-75 ones don't win solid Open Maidens. RC had the race run entirely to suit him and in the front pair running settled on the rail. More competent and professional than FB throughout but worn down by that one who is a plain larger horse with more power. RC probably 60s and might leak over 70 in Tester ratings.

Zeela arrived with a bit of hype and seems to be the better filly that Tim Easterby would normally run at RIPN in April. She was entered at RIPN but the apparently limited colt Reassert ran instead (he has run poorly back at RIPN since). Zeela a good size and mature and with ok develpment potential. Doesn't look like a 'Zebedee' as she isn't grey, small nor compact. Ran a solid race but just lacking the nous and readiness to run down the leading pair in the HS. Still going forward late and would have overhauled the winner in another 0.5f. Solid OR75+ type and seems ok for 6f+ development.

You would worry sometimes that Mick Channon is going to end up training a lot of horses he has bred himself or his mate has who owns Norman Court Stud. Channon's pressing training style with 2yos has seen a long line of NC Stud minor stallions make some 2yo impact over the years (Fram, Piccolo, Hunting Lion, Impreial Dancer, etc) and Channon seems to have umpteen Sixties Icon's again. Juventas has a spectacularly non-precocious pedigree by a staying sire and a dam who finally won over 12f as an 8yo. None of her previous foals have even managed to run on the flat. So, perhaps a good sign he is already running and he is the 'black sheep'. But, just a medium and unremarkable one and more a 60s type Channon will hot-house into competing in Maidens. Inclined to read this run as a 'Voulnteer 4th' rather than a 'promisingly staying on 4th in a hot maiden'.

Fahey has run 80+ maiden winners int he race in the last 2 years with 2013 victor Peniaphobia OR90+. Given that an expensive one for owner H. Steel looked likely to be a good one and a possible strong debut. The SP was in the shorter range which backed that up to some extent but also a mild drift. Montefalcon did most things wrong in the race including a slow start from wide then an extended period of very free-running uphill and looking in danger of running over the back of the horses in front. A very tame fade in the HS even given those problems. Inclined to see what the Market says NTO to try to glean whether he was an ordinary 70s one at the wrong SP here or a real OR80+ one who blew his chances with his behaviour.

Paul Cole does tend to front load competitive 2yos so you would think British Art should be a solid OR75+ one as an expensive early starter foir an important owner. The Cole 2yos can mess up early debuts and then snap together well STO. Looking for excuses you would say BA ran green here and raced wide throughout and never really got balanced nor travelling. On the downside view you would have niggles that it looked a bit more than just being 'green'. A shorter model but bulky but look a bit fat and stodgy. Not really able to shift his bulk nor use his stride (what he has) properly. He just seemed to be scratching along in the HS and not doing anything that even looked like plugging on (like Juventas did for eg). Another to put a '?' next to and see how he presents in PRev STO and what price range he is at.
