SUMMARY
Photo Finish with VoFire Far Rail then FCave & GFriend widest of the rail.

More 'Kevin Ryan the King of the Breeze Ups' with Mercury following up the previous day's disappointing debuts from expensive or hyped pair of Mighty ZipSwift Approval. This one another Chestnut starting over 6f from the dead Film Stars (& presumably now dead Rock Stars) owner Mr Bailey. Will this one be more what the 'King' hype suggests? Will Frank be able to deliver a FTO 2yo anyway? On the Breeze Video Mercury looks less bulky, a bit smaller and a bit more length than the real 'Bull' sprinters in the 'Kings' CV. Fine, and balanced but looking a bit lighter & smaller than expected. Moves straight but just 'ok' overall. A bit upright in front and a bit of knee action. Mercury's response to being pressed to go faster is for the head to come up a bit rather than flattening down & lengthening. Might just be inexperience. Gets a bit tired late on and something not fully organised with the movement in front when that kicks in. On the Breeze video then wouldn't be expecting a Group winner type ironing out this field.

Field Raced Centre with an Average & Usable Pace. Some hanging left with the leading 5 home clear and over to Far Side as picture shows. Gurkha Friend (No 2 in the Picture) having got a Comfortable lead then overtaken by the 4th & 5th 2R in the last 2f but staying on back to them at the line to force a 3-Way Photo.

Mercury showing a lot of traits he had in the Breeze Video. Looking juts average at most in the field for size if some ok bulk behind. Did a fair bit wrong before Halfway but the pace slow enough to not punish that too much. Slow start and last after 100yds which seems an odds-on favourite outcome for any Spencer ridden 2yo FTO (unless the horse doesn't need organising & zips off unasked). THen ran a bit free as the pace slowed and the head came up. Then putting his head to the right and offerring to hang left after 2F and Frank chucked another 1.5L away not dealing with that.

Mercury then showing some ability to travel ok after halfway and make some ground in the CZ. Enoough of an effort at 2f out to be challenging for 3rd but then stopped very quickly 1f out and the head went up and the disorganisation kicked in early as on the breeze. Has more ability than the result shows and can sharpen his act up in a number of areas. But, that stopping so abruptly makes him too risky to consider STO and rather see how he performs [Note - This VRev done Aug 11th the day before Mercury declared for a 6f race at CARL. The way he stopped on debut doesn't make an uphill 6f seem what he needed. ]

[Aug26] Phoenix Storm for an important/ucky owner for the Fahey stable but at 12/1. This a 'Social' debut at YORK rather than being a good one? PS looking more like a Ryan 2yo than a Fahey one including wearing a Shadow Roll. More of typical Ryan body shape as well and a deeper fronted sprimter type. Probably just medium size. Never got going in this race and looked more not handling the GF than being green. Ok start but slightly hampered on an undulation after 0.5f and back to 3R. Head a bit over to the right soon after and always offering to hang left. Jk going though the niggle, really niggle, drive progression early in the race before being outpaced would have been an issue. To no effect and PS losing ground in the last 2F and the jk let him hang left after he had dropped to last and eased him. Without PRev then has to be a downside '75' view on PS on this run. See how he presents STO.
