SUMMARY
G from GF on Decs. 8.5mm Rain on Sat.

Charlie Hills' Blog on Aug 4th included = "Where'e Sue runs at Ripon. We were disappointed with her run at Newbury which was too bad to be true. She looks like she's woken up at home and we would be looking for her to put up a good performance.".

Halfway Positions to final strongly suggest the Pace too fast and the race breaking up to allow Deep Closers. Little Lady Katie in 6th at half but already niggled along and behind a break of 3L from the Pressing Group of 5. Stocking coming from even further back after a Slow Start. LLK's closing amount of 6.5L the 3rd highest out of 152 races to date this season (3 of the Top 4 at RIPN). 42 of the 152 races won by the front runner and 86% of the winners less than 3L off the leader at halfway. It takes a lot to break a 6f race up as completely at this one did after halfway. Probably worth marking up Faraajh & Honeysuckle Lil for hanging on best of the Leading 5 at Halfway. But, a worry for the overall form level set that Sparkling Sapphire, who has an OR36, appeared to run her best rate to date having run in 3rd of the pressers and apparently still getting an [EST] not far below her OR.

Little Lady Katie a 50/1 win for a few reasons added up apparently. First would be that she is bigger and stronger than a 50/1 rabbit should be. Finishing here with Stocking and a bit bigger than that one. Not shown in ATR pre-race waft over a few fancied ones (and ones the Captain has had whispers for) but at least as strong as any apart from Honeysuckle Lil

Second reason would be that 50/1 mostly reflects a dreadful debut run which reads as 'useless' in the Form Book. That, plus the fact that the Market knows nothing else about her and likes to park anything it can as 'not worth considering'. Which is usually fine but will always trip over the likes of LLK. Worth noting that LLK was given a full-on 'Educ Intro' & 'Protect the OR' ride FTO including the bit of dreadful acting from the jk. An appentice jk here which will often help to inflate the price. What SP would LLK have been with the same debut but, for eg, Fallon riding?

The third reason would appear to be the Leaders going too fast and setting the Race up for Closers. LLK & Stocking sitting in 3R together on the Rail inside Halfway with 2 x Ranks of fillies going to hard in front of them and a straggle on poor ability and 'tomorrow rides' behind. Which meant as the Pace broke up LLK & Stocking in the ideal spot to use the Pace and making similar efforts to each other after switching out 2F out to duel right to the line.

Trainer Burke interviewed after the race wiith his wife, former Licence holder Elaine and daughter of disqualified trainer Alan Jarvis as a lot of 'Bad Stuff' seems to be pooling, running away like the Bailiffs had just pulled up outside. Hard to infer precisely what was going on but he said he was not surprised by the win but was surprised by the price. He had thought LLK would be an ok 'Nursery Filly' which would fit fine with the debut nonsense. Then said LLK had improved physically more than he expected from debut. Which would have you guessing at a usable 60s filly who has improved a bit above that but the trainer was still working to Plan A. Add that to a Market lacking info and over-using the 1.5 negatives it has to hand along with a race falling apart a bit and a 50/1 win. Burke finishing by saying he didn't think she was a 'Black Type' filly and she wound now go to Nurseries.

Where's Sue a smaller one IC and running in the Centre of the Leading trio to Halfway. Starting to creak and drop out of the Leading Line soon after Halfway then, as at NWBY on debut, going backwards very quickly inside the last 2f and eased soon inside the last 1f. An issue of some sort needing finding & fixing. [Update = WTRB lodged saying WS did not handle the track. Check the Video Replay when it becomes available. She looked to be moving ok for 2f in the Leading Line and the last 2f looked exactly like her effort FTO - when no WTRB was made.]

Some interest in the 'Deep Closing' pair of My Girl Jo & Yat Ding Yau. MGJ given a peculiar ride which looked a lot like 'Not Today Thanks'. A slowish stat but had got going and into the race fine and ahead of Stocking as the benchmark of what could be achieved in Closing terms by a jk willing to get on with it. Jk on MGJ decided to haul her back for 5-6L after 2f to be 10L back at halfway. Then dithered about and a bit of acting until it was safe to make a bit of progress without placing and then eased MGJ early. Clearly she could have finished closer but needs some thought about what her making the 1st 3 would have amounted to in Absolute form terms.

Yat Ding Yau a different story to MGJ because YDY getting behind and making a meal of making progress in last 2f because of being green rather than part strangled. Again, would have gone close to placing here with a competent run but what does that amount to?
