Medium to Stiff NW Wind = 1/2 Headwind from the left. === Pre Race === Breeze Video for Real Art showing a typical Smaller medium sire type (Chunky enough, IP body length) and balanced overall if neck not a bit too long. A bit free & held in the gather area. Most notable part seems to be she uses a lot of range in movement, especially notable behind. Seems to have a medium speed action at most and not looking a 'snap' sprinter. Range of movement and slower action meaning she looks less 'busy' than average and floating along more (range of drive behind hiding in camera angle shot). Intersting to see how her movement looks here over 5f on faster going. Would she be able to go with a fast pace? Will the range mean she is staying on in the lasat 2f (uphill to a flat last 1f)? === Post Race === Jersey Breeze bigger and stronger than SOM in VRev and able to travel in lead with that one then kick past her into last 2f. Hung left & briefly looked as if might throw race away but going forward while hanging. JB ok bulk and size and 78-82. Trainer Channon saying he was thinking about Royal Ascot without really sounding convincing. More like she was the best (?) or better one they had. Stroke Of Midnight livelier in prelims and ok power behind but a bit weaker front and smaller side. Ran fine in lead, outkicked by JB the hanging right as JB hung left. Clear of others and ok 70s but vulnerable in open maidens. Drifted in Market. Very Honest a possible for a better Suroor filly but a negative in VRev. Notable small and compact. Depp in front with it and fit enough for the day but size limited. A 5f sprinter if anything but need a faster test and lessser company. Why supported to favourite? Compel and owner bred and smaller and a young attitude. Might be usable 60s. But, the 7th debut for Varian in 2015 and none have placed better than 4th. Like a normal season start but with any of the usable/better types not debuting early. He must have some ok ones in the large 2yo string listed on his website - where are they? Mermaid smaller to small but ready and neat enough made. Given an uncomplicated ride by Dobbs and unable to match kick of 1st 2 but enough nous to be clear of the others. Closed up to SOM late on because Hughes already easing that one. Spencer on Real Art which was enough to ensure a terrible start with the filly a bit green and needing some help. Got onto the group wide out in the last 2f and some staying on for minimal asking from Frank. Worth a chance to show what she can really do when she knows more and with a proper jk riding. |
