=== Pre Race ===

Hills in 215 saying Pickapocket would be ready to go in April over 5f to "have a go" (interesting to match his use of that phrase to the variable early debuts and season development). But, noting he would be better at 6f and should stay 7f. More early evidence he is looking at the season career and not what the hors can achieve at 5f early. Pickapocket has been entered for earlier season races but this a delayed debut. Hills' recent debuts (since May 30th) less competitive after a better batch in mid to late April. Pickapocket a better debut than the recent average given his early season readiness?

Interesting to compare Hills' take on how to develop Pickapocket's 2yo career with the yearling video of him. That shows a shorter one but looking quite physically mature. If he was fitter you wouldn't notice if he turned up in a 2yo race paddock looking as he did as a yearling. Strong front with the neck a bit long. Front could look like a 5f sprinter but a narrower hip and lacking a 5f power type set-up behind. Moves well at the walk, balanced, using his range and all flows well together. Interesting to see how fast his cadence is and how he uses his range now when galloping. Has he grown and/or lengthened at all? Given the 5f to 7f stuff from Hills you wonder whether he is a mix of physical types (part sprinter front but longer neck, less power behind, etc). Doe sthat make him fine for 6f or is he 'between stools' and hard to find an optimum distance for?

St Georges Cross at longer SPs in early am. Brown in 215 said - "..going to be a sprinter ..backward now. One for mid-season..". Owner Fretwell has had a runner in the last 2 editions of the race with a moderate 3TO unplaced filly in 2013 and an uncompetitive debut (McMahon) in 2014. The latter at 33/1 and a maiden at 2yo and won a WTON handicap off OR59 in April 2015.

Show Me Again the 3rd debut of the season for trainer Dennis and all Breeze purchases. The first 2 earlier in the week finished 11th/14 (25/1) and 12th/12 (66/1). Breeze video shows a smaller medium one with a bit more body length than some of the ready 'balls' by the sire. Looking a bit 'young' and middling build and a bit light behind. Perhaps just above average cadence but the action in front a bit ugly and disorganised. Part bent whole time and a bit out and wide. Probably just a middling pace. Doesn't look to have much scope and £50k a premium price for a ready now one (with flaws).

=== Post Race ===

Sub 75 race on profile unless something better than 75 in the newcomers. Freeze Style a poor favourite off a never involved and staying on 3rd FTO. But, even so, a 33/1 winner to add to a 28/1 FTO in the later NWBY maiden. So, clearly some explaining to be done from the PRev & VPs. This week has been unusually tricky with the 3 x winners on Monday at 14/1 (twice) & 25/1. Two of the winners on Wednesday were FTOs at 20/1 & 50/1 to add to the 28/1 & 33/1 so far on the day. How many of those winners stood out in PRev and how much was it down to poorly defended races? General Market misreading of the 'form' horses? Environmental conditions? etc.

Solid Pace but leading line of 4 at halfway kicked off their efforts too early immediately after Halfway as Triassic headed Freeze Style. Leading 4 with a 2L break over the 2R and the field stretched behind.

[June 22nd] Rouleau a smaller medium one, solid build and deep but with a longer neck. Typically green for an Appleby debut and a slow start from the widest draw. Able to tag onto the back of the centre group. Taking some time approaching 2f out to realise what was required. Just average plugging on to a Volunteer 4th in a race which set up to allow Closers. About 0.5L behind the winner Show Me Again aound 2f out and Rouleau lost 2L+ to him by the line despite getting a clear run with SMA having to wait for a gap near the rail. Rouleau ok for 70+ but not looking a solid 75 certainty although can improve from this for professionalism. Runs in a lower level WTON maiden STO which fits with a 70+ take without being a strong Open Maiden conveter in an Average+ event.

[July 4th] Freeze Style a smaller Ryan sprinter type. Fit enough on the day and clam in prelims. Still up behind. Jk made an WTRB saying 'Never Travelling' which seems a bit odd since FS was in the leading line to past Halfway with Spencer either perched quiet or perhaps even holding FS back a bit. That the reason why FS running with Head to Right for the first 2f+? But, FS not picking up at 2f out and wobbling around and no response as Spencer got unusually active. On his first run FS got well behind and driven along and got to 3rd by staying on for pressure as the race fell apart. Here, you might suggest he packed it in in a different way. Looked more like a physical issue at 2f out here. But a 60s type with lesser scope.
