GF by Race Time with GStick updated to be 8.5 Far & Stands sides, 8.3 Centre. GGF at 08:15am as on Decs. Watering on Sunday but no Details. GStick 8.0 Centre & Far Side, 8.2 (faster) on Stands Side. Stalls Centre. === Pre Race === Halsall not sold at the 'London Sale' the evening before the race with No Bid recorded. === Post Race === Initial thoughts. Field spread across course. Ruby Notion took off from stall 10 (centre to Far Side) and 4-5L clear after 1f (if they ever have 4f races at ASCT...). RN hanging right a bit across to the low draws and that seemed to drag the far side group, as a whole, ahead of the high draws racing in a stands side group. 3 of first 4 home from low draws with Steady Pace edging right from a centre draw across the the outer edge of that group. Aragon Knight kicked clear of the stands side group from before halfway to try to chase the pace. Orvar left with too much to do to close up from well off the pace and isolated. Areen & Steady Pace both ran in the National Stakes LTO along with Coventry winner Buratino all having issues in that race and not showing what they could achive. King Of Rooks had the run of that race to finish clear of that trio and is already the odds on favourite for Thursda's Norfolk Stakes. Good bit of jk comparison late on with Spencer trying to get Areen to go faster by junmping around more and adding more unnecessary energy to the system. Moore carried on in his rhythm asking Washington DC while looking across at Frank with the disdain of Roger Federer whacking a cross-court past a Sunday hacker. These sort of bid field, strong pace and high energy races play well to Spencer's OSFA 'style' and long priced places by him at the meeting fairly common. === Post VRev === Around halfway the field spread from far rail to Stds-Cent Strip and in an echelon, with the far side ahead, the centre mid way back and the stands side of the spread well back. The pace too strong and the 6-8th and 11-12th home all examples of horses who got well behind the pacesetting group on the Far Side (led by Ruby Notion) while racing stands side. They all made notable places and ground back by the finish line with the echelon from Far Rai back to stands side starting to 'straighten up' across the track. 8 of the field made VTLs after Halfway (19 lost relative ground) and in order of ground gained they were = Areen, Opal Tiara, Steady Pace, Orvar, Washington DC, Soapy Aitken, Stamp Hill & Roll On Rory. At this point, if Royal Ascot would pay to provide Sectional Ratings we could look at the figures and see what 'Sectional Markups' were being applied to individual horses and what the last 2f 'Finishing %' was. Just visually you might wonder whether Opal Tiara might have been better off in the Albany, for eg. Also, just how valid the striking forward move Areen made just into the last 2f was. Areen extending that effort well into the last 1f. |
