GF as on Decs. 2mm Watering on Fri. Stalls Far Side. Medium NNW Wind = 3/4 Headwind. === Pre Race === Fahey in his SLife piece = "We’re also double handed in the Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Penwortham did everything wrong on debut, was very keen and ran himself into the ground. He’s better than that and is a horse we like. If he switches off early I’d expect him to bounce back. Back To Bond’s owner loves runners at this meeting. This is a horse who tries very hard but he has to step up on what he’s done so far to win this". Breeze Video for Brilliant Vanguard showing a medium height on and lengthy bodied. Up behind making him look a bit dip-backed. A bit narrow but stronger on the quarters. Not looking toigether. Breeze better than he looks and shows a faster action. Uses the range he has ablanced. Hangs right 2nd 1f as he tires and cadence drops. Looks usable 70s but not a better type. === Post Race === [Aug 4th] Stalls far side but field forming up in Centre Track. Nothing in leading line of 3 wanting to go on so an Average Pace at most. Field tightly grouped after 2f except for the green Never Give In 2-3L off the back and driven along. Athollblair Boy a good break and hauled back to 2nd rank after 0.5f. Never fully settled in 2R and the jk still holding him to some extent coming to 2f out efforts point off a usable. Nothing much happens when asked for his effort and loses touch with the leading line. Looking like he can only rach further in front and not increase his cadence. Stalls and fades in the last 1f. Vague temptation to say he might look better if he hadn't been pulling but then looked at his Breeze Video notes which include = "Does a slow trundly breeze that is worse than his type. Slower cadence and lesser range use. Rider inactive apart from some niggling after the 1f out pole. Nothing much changes in movement and just looks more laboured". Inclined to think he is a solidly built medium one who can look ok until asked to up the pace when things looks less good because he cannot. Add in the trainer as a real negative and one to let go. |
