==== Pre Race====

Fahey in his SL piece = "Birchwood is a colt we like and he makes his debut in the Maiden Stakes. He has taken some getting fit but does show a bit at home".

=== Post VRev ===

Stalls Stands' Side but field taken to race on Centre-Stands Strip by Secret Ambition. AN averag pace at most to just before Halfway when SA started to increase the Pace. Field starting to stretch out before 2f out given the stronger pace and then a full-on sprint in the last 2f separating the first 3 home from the other 3 who were left behind. Overall Pace appeared to do a good job of sorting the field by ability.

A race with a solid record of producing 80+ types but often in a field with a wide spread of abilities. The 6 runners here seem to cover most of the usual ability range and a key question of whether there is anything Listed+ quality. Birchwood short in the Market in a real sense of Signal and the Fahey team seeming sure this was a better one. Green in the race and a slow start and then taking time to get fully going into the last 1f+. For a time it seemed that SA might hold Birchwood off but a mix of SA hanging right and Birchwood putting his head down and finding a bit extra kick changed that into the last 0.5f. The Fahey hrse seeming to win a bit comfortably and learning as he went and scope to improve for that.

Birchwood a shorter on but deep and stongly built and has a bit of scope to strngthen. Shows a notably knee action (KA) and this shows upin the walk as 'stepping'. Look at the stable picture of him going RH in a Lunge Ring and the KA is visible as is a hint of some extra length/range in the Forelegs. Shoed that here in the last 1.5f and not the smoothest looking because of the KA. You would think he would be ok with softer going. Looks at least 85 and will presumably try Listed level as a minimum.

Secret Ambition not ready enough FTO to put a race together and back in the ruck with lesser types. Ready here and in good condition. Broke best, controlled the pace and might have forced a Photo Finish but for hanging right into the last 0.5f. Jk Fanning reported the hanging as SA 'running green'. A different physical type to Birchwood, taller and narrower and typical of the sire in that way. Strong effort in the last 2f here and definitely 80+.

Mr Morse seemed to get intimidated FTO and soon got adrift and never in the race. Improved greatly here for nous although still not fully fit. Solid effort in the last 2f if not able to match the top end of the first two home. Bulkier than SA and almost as tall. Looks ok 75+.

Big gap back to the others and that looked a real 'size grading' and a gap of some real Class Levels. Clive Clifton the bigger of the Evans' pair but a touch green. But notably smaller, in various dimensions, to the first 3 home and a touch green when asked for his effort. Seems a reasonable prospect for 60s of some sort.

Addicted To Luck smaller than stablemate CC and weak below. Blown away here and 50s.

Local Trainer Shaun Harris often has DONC debuts and this his 3rd runner in this race. The previous 2 fillies have finished 3rd with one beaten a long way 3rd/5 and Agadoo 3rd in 2014 mixed in with the better types because of a slow pace. Look at the careers of those pair of fillies and they both paid, in inflated OR terms for the races Harris ran them in. The first, Blue Clumber also ran in the Hilary Needler and ended up with an OR over 80. She eventually broke her Maiden in the August of her 3yo career with the OR down to 48. Agadoo's OR had to work down from 68 before she won her last 2yo run off OR51. Kylla looking small and weak and not as 'strong' as either of the other two fillies. Pace in the race meant there was no chance of here stummbling into a 3rd and got left behind. Given the way the trainer developed the other two fillies' careers you would hope he would go via different routes and Kylla looking unlikely to win even off the OR that Agadoo finally got down to.
