Repton review – Repton looked a class apart in the paddock and so it proved.

Repton – Attractive colt almost but not quite big. The picture still suggests the slight weakness in the backend may limit his progress beyond handicaps. Not sure if Mr Levey was not almost taking it too easy toward the end. 85

Second Thought – A good performance from one who did not look fully tuned for his debut. Mr Haggas seems to have the knack, like the Hannons, of producing them in a fit enough condition to run well if not to win unless they are a bit lucky with the opposition fto. I thought he would be third for lack of race readiness but ran on well. Medium size 79

Tallulah Rose – Despite my antipathy for the trainer’s methods the size and calmness of this one together with a decent physique won me over. Tall filly, top end of medium height but a bit lighter bodied than say Grizzel. Perhaps just a little short of back end power but well enough made to compete fto. 77

Leontes – tall and light framed, bit gawky at the front and limited by this. Neck may be too long for him to be a balanced galloper. 76

Stringybark Creek – Not a happy boy throughout the prelims, coat not right, fractious. Seemed to try hard enough and ran ok given his 6lb penalty. Deep chested but a bit untidily made from there back. Have to wait for nurseries as long as he doesn’t get too fed up. 76

Crystal Secret – Very green and apprehensive in paddock and going to course for 2to. Small, lightly made, showed some pace 60

Felstead Queen – top end of small, boxy shape. Difficult to see her winning a maiden unless she finds a weak one. 65

Fanfair – Small, weak, terribly downhill. Hard to imagine how she snuck into the Hannon yard. Brighton beckons. 48
