Caravaggio review – Storms overnight and just before racing. This was a pretty stunning win given that Caravaggio was drawn on the ‘wrong’ side of the course or at least in the slower group. To leave these behind and cross the course and win with authority from those more fortunately drawn suggests that this is a very good one.

Caravaggio – just above mid medium sized with good length and looked highly tuned. The (2) picture shows a level of muscle definition and a lightness that I have seen repeatedly with A P O’B runners that usually predicts a good performance. 105

Mehmas – just below mid medium and looked a real 2yo. Superbly fit and in great condition. With the draw advantage I thought he would prevail. No change at 94

Psychedelic Funk – Bigger than Mehmas and probably shading into large but more in terms of bulk and strength than simply height. Good condition 90

Medieval – Below medium in height but a solid chunkily built model. Should develop into a good sprinter as he grows a bit. 89

Van Der Decken – Another one that probably did not quite make medium in height but had a very strong front end. Maybe better at 7f. 88

Thunder Snow – Looked oddly heavier here on 2to than from fto at Leicester. Won the slower stand side race with the exception of Caravaggio who was taken to the other side. Ran a good race, and would expect him to be closer to Mehmas on a more even field. 93

Monks Stand – Stand side again, good pace but faded. Lighter built type and just into medium. 88

Yalta – Went off fast and probably did well to stay on although racing on faster side. Not sure if it is the type he buys but I have now seen several of MJ’s that have this same rectangular look to them. Big but a bit inflexible looking. 86

Silvertoni – Short bodied, a bit up and light behind, possibly needed more time. Chunky for a filly but did not look to have scope to overcome this lot. 84

Parys Mountain – looked smaller than my impression at Leicester, very fit, short bodied and not much space for the jockey. 79

Stoneyford Lane – Well built with scope and size. 74

Dolokhov – Trundler here for connections day out. 68

Rusumaat – Strong medium bullock type. Too free early and ran out of steam. 75

Lundy – Another that pulled early and lost chance that way. Looked better than this, big strong lengthy and fit. 80

Grand Coalition – Repeatedly took the eye, won on fast ground before so have to think it was too soft. Medium size but strongly made, looked fit 80

Mokarris – Not totally convinced by this one at Haydock and the ground there was by no means fast. Probably can be opposed again. Did the quality of opposition on debut make him look better than he is? 84

Nibras Bounty – looked small and out of place here. Not surprised he was 66/1 despite connections. Nurseries. 74

Garth Rockett – Another one here for the day out, green and spinning in the pre-parade. Decent size in the upper mediums and might be capable of winning a race if trainer can calm him down and get him fit. 74
