SUMMARY

=== Pre Race ===

Fahey SL piece = "In First Place makes his debut in the Morrison Utility Services Champion Cup Newcomers' Maiden Stakes and in many ways the same comments apply to him as they did Boundsy at Ripon. My juveniles are needing the run this year and that is the worry, but he's quite a nice colt who we like and he's another who's sure to win races.".

=== Post Race ===

Jk Tudhope said after the race that Hoyamy was very similar in home work to Coolfitch who won FTO at RIPN. Saying they expected a good run for her and she had a good attitude. That showed up in the race and mostly professional. In VRev you could fault her set-up. A shorter and lengthy bodied type for an early sprinter and still up behind. Solidly muscled for filly though and looking relaxed and professional in the prelims. Seems likely to run above her presentation to some extent.

Reach High the first Suroor runner and over the years opposing early 5f runners for Godolphim the best way and runners often too short on reputation early on. Suroor has them readier than Appleby (who will prob start with clueless ones) but doesn't have them tuned as he used too. RH another one with a less than classic body shape. Talller than Hoyamy and not quite as lengthy. A strongish looking front but a block shape but tails off behind. Probably the biggest in an inconvincing field in real-75+ terms. Mentally young AP and gave real trouble loading and finally put in last hooded. Ran well given that and racing widest of the rail. That immaturity and wide position meant him hanging away wide late on or he might just have won. Looking rine for 75+ but not better class.

Dark Hero the first Hills runner and they often start real class in their earliest runners and the 'average' one ought to be OR76-82 (even if they take time to win their maiden). DH having the circumstantials to be useful but, on brief views, looked perhaps below medium and not standing out. Green and soon behind in the race and lacking promise. Check whether he might be a developer and just too green here but size/scope seemed an issue.

Hoyamy review

Seemed a better group than in the Leicester (Hyperfocus) race bar the winner of that. Doncaster an oddly difficult course to get a good photograph. Two more Bated Breath progeny starting early and In First Place the best performer so far.

Hoyamy – this one surprised me, not looking above average in the group. Lower end of medium size, did not look as fit as some, long back. Perhaps just a natural who can rate higher than first impressions would suggest. 78

Reach High – Blanketed until leaving the paddock and did not appear to stand out in terms of size. Photo perhaps flatters size, pretty fit. Behaved well through prelims and hard to think that the fighting with the stall handlers did not prejudice his chances. Ran green early and Doyle not too hard on him. Difficult to think he will not end up rated higher. 81

In First Place – Similar size to Hoyamy, not small but not much bigger. Playing up in paddock and generally looking immature. Good shape and should come on a lot for the experience. 75

Cosmic Beau – Small, short stride so although fit, ready and well-muscled was probably going as fast as his legs can carry him. 65

Morning Suit – Yet again MJ has the biggest in the field, he mustn’t half have some good grub up in Middleham. Calling on the way to the pre-parade and over-wrought throughout the prelims. Tall, long, strong and stayed on well after having helped set the pace early. Should be good over further on the aw 80+

Sheila’s Return – Short and stocky, limited athleticism. 64

Tawny Port – Ok size, maybe a hint bigger if not taller than Hoyamy. Not fit but had some presence and could well snap together in a weaker race. 71

Kazanan – Got this one wrong, thought he was a fit rubber ball type that would lead them a merry dance. Pictures suggests he is not yet fit. Small and seemed intimidated in the race by a couple of bumps from big ones either side of him. His facial expression in the paddock also suggests he was finding it a bit much even before the race started. Improve 65 possibly more

Dark Hero – Why this one was starting so early before he was half fit? Heavier set than most here but fat. Pulled hard for the first half of the race then faded right away. Build suggests he might be better than this but the question remains as to why he was here, particularly at 9/2. No notes to suggest bad behaviour. 68
