- First licence in 2006 and four years of notable success with yearly increases in runners and winners and a consistently good strike rate. Had trained at his own yard in Lambourn but headhunted by footballer Michael Owen & joint Betfair Founder Andrew Black to be resident trainer at their Cheshire based stables. This was to replace Nicky Vaughan who joined a long list of trainers parting company (or sacked) by this sort of enterprise.
- Move completed in late 2009. Poor season in 2010 with hints that the string was not fully healthy and perhaps the trainer taking time to get used to the new facilities and gallops. Debut winners had been a notable part of the 2009 season and a very notable decline in FTO successes in 2010.
- As a general point it is worth looking back to his debut winners and those horses that have won at Group level by mid-season at 2yo. He tended to have runners looking very fit on debut to the point of looking overdone. Marine Boy's debut win in 2008 a good example. That horse won by 9 lengths FTO and has not won since an never looked as good again. None of the horses who have won at Listed or Group level appear to have won any race since. Classic Blade, Firth Of Fifth (now called Ole Ole in Hong Kong) & Don't Tell Mary being examples and Orpen Grey appears not to have had any success in Hon Kong either. Three of those were sold on at the height of their apparent worth so hard to tell whether the problem is the Dascombe regime at 2yo or who they are now with.
