Poet’s Princess review

Not a bad race, looked better than the colts in terms of quality. Market could not make up its mind but in the end went with two fat ones In The Spotlight and Angel Of Darkness and a marginally lesser model in Company as favourites.

Poet’s Princess – Very bottom of medium verging on smaller. Fully fit and although not high quality looked ready and willing. 75

Coral Sea – Taller and lighter model. Medium size but light in her main frame but athletic and looked by far the fittest of the Hills three. 77

Company – Same sort of size as Poet’s Princess, bit less length. Boxy at the back. Seemed to be ridden quite hard to get into it but then stayed on well. 74

Sky Ballerina – Stocky and heavily made, medium sized still fat. Oddly for a Crisford runner looked to be only 85-90% fit but with the stature to improve. 77

Dusty Berry – Small and ordinary type, lightly made and EJH fit for her debut. Looks a genuine sixties Icon type, improve over further 73

Sukiwarrior – At least showed she can run today but she is oddly built with not much length between withers and rump. I had her as top end of medium on debut but she is no more than mid to lower medium. Tried harder today but nursery type. 73

Iconic Belle – Another Sixties Icon girl, bit more substance than Dusty Berry and looked better than her finishing position suggests. Slowly away and should improve 2to as many of Mick C’s do. 74

In The Spotlight – Easy to see why she was fancied, she is a lovely big strong beast with very little to crib other than the trainer’s ability to get her fit for debut. Maybe it was never the plan but the market suggested otherwise. Simply not ready but should easily be 82+ and maybe better.

Angel Of Darkness – Typically Charles Hills big fat green unready lump. Similar to Sukiwarrior on debut. Simply way off ready to put a full race in. Strongly made but not quite the quality of In The Spotlight. Why was she shorter than Coral Sea? 78

Cheeky Fox – Small as many of Tregoning’s seem to be. Some compact strength, not fit 67

Diva Power – Smaller than Cheeky Fox, lighter as well. 64

Ashazuri – Showed some early pace. Smallish, lightly made, looked fairly fit. 60
