Review Notes contributed by @hughonthehill (Twitter handle) ===== ==== Note :- The ratings number at the end of each review summary is an estimate of what OR they might reach rather than a reflection of how they ran on the day. See the Paddock Review Rating Section on this website for reference. Escobar review – Interesting comments from Hugo Palmer saying that Escobar was ‘a long way from being wound up’. Either he was being disingenuous or he had not been looking very closely. Escobar – Looked in tremendous nick if a bit over-wrought. Yes he did get colty but only in a minor way and this is often the case with the Palmer boys. Reminded me very much of Gifted Master’s debut, but did not make the mistake of thinking his physical superiority would be undermined by his immaturity. Big, strong, with the balanced poise of a better one. Group 3 at least. 96 Devil’s Bridge – Fair size toward top end of medium but worth remembering the strange perspective of the Newbury pre-parade where one is so close. 3 placed finishes now and perhaps lack of scope is finding him out. 85 Red Ensign – Not as big as the first two, mid to lower medium. Outstanding feature was his movement at the walk, a hip swinger. Looked fit enough but the thought was that a bigger on might find him out. 84 Asaas – Low slung medium and heavy set. One of those that made one wonder if he would be able to shift his bulk. Hopefully may continue to improve and grow to make his bulk more in proportion with his frame. 80 Thaaquib – Probably next biggest to Escobar. Being brought along gently by Charlie Hills and still not looking fit enough to do himself justice. Struggling to decide about this stable this season. Lots of quality animals generally carrying too much condition and not improving first to second time out as might be expected. More going like Kyllukey than Ibn Malik. Puzzling. Thaaqib deep chested and strong throughout. Should be 85+ Mr Tyrrell – On closer inspection of his stride at the walk he seemed to be moving better today than last week at Newmarket however the result speaks for itself. Medium size and need to compete at a lower level as it may well have been Hannon professionalism that enabled him to compete so well on debut despite his limitations. 78 Go On Mayson – Top end of medium and a bigger one for Evans. Well developed behind but lacking a bit of chest cavity size compared with, say, Thaaqib. Quite green and only looking 90% ready. A different approach for Mr Evans and one to watch as he should find a race before long. 77 Never Surrender – More Hills unreadiness. Big, strong and well made. Balanced set up but short of fitness as per Thaaqib. Showed fair pace early and faded as lack of fitness told. Better than this. 82 Salouen – Hard tryer but short of quality in build and set up. Nurseries now. 75 at best. Jewel House – Given that Mr Gosden often has his 7f types ready for debut this was a poorish run. Looked close to properly ready but lacked quality in set up. Lower medium. 73 King Of Nepal – Surprised to see this one over 7f and ran as though might be better sticking to sprints. Ball of muscle but disjointed in the way the three parts are put together and perhaps this is what is contributing to disappointing performances. Weakend quickly here and interested to see what happens next. 74 I’vegotthepower – Medium size, fairly well tuned, Lacking a bit of quality or needs to strengthen up. 70 Makemerichjohn – Not quite as small as when first written up but not a lot to him. 66 Sixties Symphony – Small and ordinary. Out of place here. 54 |
