SUMMARY
|
Race with a long history of very patchy fields and relying on the Hannon stable to provide any quality. Often the case that rest of the field, Hannon aside, are real sub-80 and often only one other 70s runner in the field. This a lower end quality overall and lacking a previous winner from Channon or Turner, for e.g.
Stormy Clouds looking a notably lesser type than Chupalla on debut and finished a clear 2nd but with little behind. Travelled well STO but did not seem to pick up as much as expected in the HS and the colt she beat has been defeated twice since. Those in 3rd+ in that LNGA race of little interest depending upon how Rusumaat develops. SC able to win clearly here without even being asked to get out of her natural travelling cadence/speed. With 3 x newcomers from smaller stables and a perhaps sub-75 Evans early type in opposition a clear win may just mean OR80+.
Hannon has won the last 3 editions of the race with Fig Roll (Listed winner), Tiggy Wiggy (Group) & Illuminate (Group). Before that Bill Turner won with a filly that has won at Gr3 level in the US and prior to that 2 x ordinary Evans' types and a Channon OR70s filly before that. Inclined to the view that Stormy Clouds is more the 'Fig Roll' end of the Hannon winners and would need an ordinary or lesser Listed race to win.
