Fascinating result to go back and consider the Video for this race and where the first 2 home came from at Halfway. Then factor in what you thought of the Breeze Videos for Bithynia ( Grizzel on the Top below at 75k and, a less relaxed and less mentally mature looking, Bithynia below that. ==== Review Notes contributed by @hughonthehill (Twitter handle) ===== ==== Note :- The ratings number at the end of each review summary is an estimate of what OR they might reach rather than a reflection of how they ran on the day. See the Paddock Review Rating Section on this website for reference. Grizzel review An interesting race from the paddock review point of view where all the rules of thumb seemed to work out. Time not that special but as at Goodwood the ground did not feel g/f. Not a lot of difference in sizes. Grizzel – Of the three better quality debutants Grizzel just shaded the group in terms of strength and scope. Certainly carrying a bit more condition than Bithynia but simply stronger in all departments. Given a very sensible ride by Pat Dobbs (very good at Sandown) and things did go his way but still definitely best in class not given a hard time. 80 Naafer – Top end of small, quite well made. Did well from wide draw and not uncomplicated pacssage. 77 Bithynia – Neat, lightly made, similar size to Naafer, more fully tuned than anything else. (Is the trainer asking a bit too much too soon?) Level of muscle definition compared to Hannon runners both here and at Goodwood earlier in marked contrast. 75 Snoozy Sioux – this one came into the pre-parade and left again without any identification and I assumed it was one of the big three. Well made filly, calm and strong, looking fit balanced and ready. If she were not from a trainer yet to train a 2yo winner and ridden by an experienced jockey she could have ranked as a likely winner. As it was she ran with distinction despite the apprentice not understanding the need to get across to the rail if you are in front and with the whip in the wrong hand allowing her to drift out to the centre. As it was 7/2 in the 4tbp market was very generous. Hopefully she can give the rookie trainer a debut win. 75 Night Law – Ordinary looking filly, bit of depth and strength but some way of fully fit. Also a bit green 72 Fair Selene – Modestly made and far from fit. 65 Madame Bounty – Shading into lower medium and probably as big as Grizzel. Not fully tuned and ran green and free early before fading. Enough size and strength to improve 2TO or 3TO 74 Whiteley – As previously advertised, looked fully fit now but simply not enough of her to cope with these. 61 |
