12mm of Rain Overnight.
=== Pre Race ===
Hannon in his SJ blog = "It will be nice to have a double at Chepstow and kick it off with TOMILY in the Novice Stakes at 5:50pm. I’ve booked a very good 5lb claimer in Gary Mahon and I think this one will win. He’s a very sharp 2-year-old who I believe is among the top ten rated juveniles so far this season so I’ll be disappointed if he’s beaten. ".
=== Post Race ===
Stalls Centre with field drifting towards Cent-Stds.
Looked a typically uncomplicated ride (leaving aside Hughes in later career) from a jk on a Hannon 2yo. The same way they don't complicate things with going, headgear (a handful of 2yos each year when everything else isn't working) and racecourse preliminaries (relaxed 2yos first into the Pre-P and saddled first, often giving leads to the others). The entire opposite of Control-Freaks like McCabe.
Tomily breaking well and in the lead and mildly trying to over-race. Instead of getting into a fight or hauling Tomily to the back (a la Frank, and something Hughes could get tempted into) the jk sits quiet and keeps Tomily in a rhythm. Setting a solid pace which had the 3 poor ones struggling before 2f runs and Davarde driven along by Halfway. Even managed to look back at Davarde to check he was 'gone' before drifting across him to take the stands rail in the last 1f+. Also managed to not use the whip and presumably had been told by Hannon that Tomily would win. The sort of training that 'made' Ryan Moore, D O'Neill, Dobbs, etc.
Tomily looking the 'Prince of Denmark' type the Hannons would run in the National Stakes.
