SUMMARY
G in the am. Rain at times during the day and Going changed to GS after this race.

=== Post Race ===

Field raced off the rail and Cent-Stds to Hf. Below average Pace to halfway then pace wound up before 2f out to spread the fillies out mostly by ability at the finish.

Likeable effort by Romantic View A touch narrow but taller type. Most notably a smooth, balanced and straight mover. Won with some comfort. Should rate 90+.

Hannon's often use the May GDWD meetings to introduce good ones. Sky Lantern won it on debut for the same connections, as an obvious example. Pepita held up off the pace and able to make comfortable progress from Halfway as the pace was starting to make many others creak. Clear 2nd best and ok frame if perhaps a bit weaker in front. Fine for 80+. Not a deep race on Profile and 3rd/4th (Limelite & Hellofahaste) ok for 70+ and prob around 75.

Moondust a medium one and well placed in 2R. Took time to get going as the pace wound up after halfway. That meant that she got hampered and squeezed back between Chicha De La Noche & Pepita (as that one cruised forward from behind Moondust). On one level the bump caused her to lose 2L+ and she never got going again. On the other hand if she had picked up better than CDLN and nearly as well as Pepita the problem would not have arisen. Check whether 5/2 here was as much to do with connections as ability.

Romantic View review

Tough race to get a decent look at the field as they were understandably rugged up against a penetrative drizzle. Not really convinced there was a special one in here although one or two in the ruck that looked ok if unfit. Moondust the greenest of the group.

Romantic View – With Moondust too green there was nothing that looked quite ready enough to challenge this favourite. She did this very capably and I probably underestimated her fto as she is a bit plain looking. 90

Pepita – Heavy set medium model, still carrying plenty of condition, calm and relaxed, plenty of improvement to come 86

Limelite – Bottom end of medium, good proportions, reminiscent of Grizzel at Sandown 78

Hellofahaste – Lower end of medium build, a bit taller than Limelite but less girth depth, narrow. Fittest of the newcomers and certainly prepared to fully compete today by the Millmans. 76

Chicha De La Noche – Taller medium, some natural ability as she did not look more than 90% fit. Maybe the trainer can squeeze a win out of this one. 75

Naifah – Neat and ready filly, on the cusp of small and medium, lightly made but enough substance to think she can go on from this. 76

Shawami – Skinny little girl, calm, will probably be out in next 7-10 days at a minor course and get very competitive. Not the size to cope with these. 72

Swan Serenade – Portman trying his hardest at Goodwood as usual. Another small one, not as hard trained as Shawami but seemed to show plenty of pace until fading for lack of full fitness. Auction maiden fodder. 73

Jasmincita – Solidly made, lwr medium, way of full fitness and lack of knowhow fairly typical of trainer’s debutants. 70

Moondust – Very green and nervous in pre-parade and probably had lost it before she entered the paddock. Tall and lightly made but with some scope and an athletic look that suggested she might be fast. Was travelling ok but probably finding going a bit difficult and then when squeezed between two more robust fillies in Pepita and Chicha DLN Havlin accepted it was not to be her day. If not for all the nervous energy expended might have shaken up Romantic View as the betting suggested. 87

Masterfilly – Compact and powerfilly made in a neat frame. Fat and green but enough suggestion of power to think she will progress well. 75

Sukiwarrior – Heavy top end of medium lump from Charlie Hills. Not so much height but real breadth. Did not look close to fit, sort of reminiscent of Kyllukey from the same stable last year, too big and close coupled to be able to shift himself properly as a 2yo. This one might follow a similar pattern although not without potential. 76
