=== Pre Race ===

Palmer on his website = "I have always liked Evergate, who is entered in a 6f novice at Newmarket on Saturday. He was a gorgeous-looking yearling so I was persuaded the owner not to sell his in-foal mare. Mind you, I will temper my enthusiasm somewhat as I was head over heels in love with his half-brother Gaspirali this time last season and I refuse to be as smitten with this colt until he has done it on the track! I believe his mare is in foal to Native Khan, who has made a fantastic start at stud in Turkey, with two or three winners on the board already. Like I said, Evergate goes well , but there is no hiding place first time up in a novice at Newmarket.".

Hannon in his SJ blog = "The first horse to get the ball rolling will be NIBRAS BOUNTY who has just his second start in the Novice Stakes at 1:50pm. I think he is capable of more than he showed on his debut at Salisbury and believe he’ll be suited by the step up to six furlongs as he stayed on very well last time after finding trouble in running. It’s a stronger race but he works very well at home, with the likes of Mehmas, although he’s got to prove it to me on the track that he’s a good horse – if he wins here, he would’ve done that! I would like to think that he’s up to Pattern class but he will need to score here to show he is up to that level first.".

=== Post Race ===

Likeable efforts by the first 2 as their protracted duel in the last 2f pulled them clear. Pace just average to halfway with Nibras Bounty taking the lead off See The City (typical MaJo bigger but a bit boaty 2yo & always racing head left. 7+f?).

Nibras Bounty showing a bit of what he did under pressure FTO and taking time to get really balanced and going forward. Trying hard enough but a bit slow on the uptake. Head down, strong medium one. Again seeing the full 6f out well and that bringing the win. Short of 'Hannon Coventry' standard and might go 7f in the Suerlative Stakes (for eg).

Evergate dark bay and looking 'the part'. Taller than NB, and at least as well bulit. But, a more upright front galloper and would like to see him stretch out more in front. Seemed to just head NB before 1f out but hanging left and leaning on NB and pair bumping twice. Evergate then hanging right as he tired in the uphill last 1f and lost the 1L+ on NB close to the line. Seems fine for 88+ and will presumably try Group level.
