Red Emerald drifted from 5/4 to 13/8 favourite. Tracked the pacemaker and slightly outpaced around halfway. Looked smaller than Magidene and Jaassey but showed a good attitude to battle hard in the last furlong. A low level of form and probably close to what she is capable of.

Jaassey was supported from 3/1 to 2/1 second favourite. Ran a typical but acceptable debut by trainer standards. Broke slightly slow and had to be pushed along to settle third behind a solid pace but travelled ok once set. Moved up quite well inside two furlongs from home to challenge for the lead as Magidene stalled. However, lack of fitness and possibly some pace, meant he didn't go on and got into a battle with Red Emerald (on her second run) and slightly faded late. Looked an average 70+ winner on this.

Mae Cigan  was steady around 14/1 on debut. Got well behind behind a solid pace set by Magidene. Looked to put in a strong finish but probably made to look better by Magidene fading and the other two leaders stalling. Plugging on late in a slowish race but ran above expectations. Did not show 5f pace here but more overall ability than on profile.

Magidene had missed the break on debut and then run a quick-slow race although fading more than you would like. Drifted from 9/2 to 11/2 third favourite. Broke well and got to lead on rails and ran slightly freely. Set a good pace and possibly quickened a little around halfway. Stalled and then faded strongly inside the last furlong looking like he didn't stay. An improved effort but need to see him finishing races off more strongly.

Mine The Balance was steady around 7/1 and the trainer second string. Got outpaced around halfway and then faded.

Royal Embrace ran to expectations and was never competitive at 20/1. Trainer has now run two 2yos both bought for close to his highest sales price. Both have produced poor results in two quick runs. This one has not shown any competitiveness in either race. Hard to assess what the trainer's plan is with these type of early uncompetitive runners he often has. The majority of them never win so does he just have a lot of moderate 2yos? or are there other reasons?
