Pre-race Summary

April 4th Summary: The 2003-2004 results are at the bottom of the page for comparison
April 4th SUMMING UP
  • A moderate race on profile unless Jaassey is an average, or above average, type.
  • Red Emerald sets a low standard on what she achieved here last week and Jaassey and Magidene have some profile positives which suggest they could exceed that standard.
  • However, Jaassey represents a trainer whose debut runners have shown the usual range from very ready to clueless already this season. Magidene was inexperienced but faded tamely even given his slow-quick start so improvement here may not be enough to beat Red Emerald.
  • In summary no runner sets a strong standard and with a strong positive profile.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • The race is a Median Auction limited to 2yos by sires whose sales median price was below the limit set for the race.
  • The entry conditions of the race allow 2yos with a wide variety of sales prices to enter. The last two winners have cost 37k & 14.5k gns and were relatively expensive prices for their sires. Two of the placed horses 2003-4 have cost only 0.8k and 2k gns.
  • Given the variation in sales prices of the runners the actual winning performance is very variable depending upon whether there is a useful 2yo in the field. However the bulk of the runners are usually minor, selling class winners at best.
  • TRAINERS:
  • None of the trainers with runners in 2005 have had a runner in the race in the period 2002-4.
  • Trainer's who regularly have runners with no runner here are R. Hannon, BR Millman & WGM Turner.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sire Bertolini (Royal Embrace).
  • SALES REVIEWS:
  • Magidene was rated 71 (early) at sales with an average chance of being a competitive 2yo at his level. This rating is at the level which would be good enough to place in this type of race and be able to win it if there were not an above average type in the race.
  • Royal Embrace was rated 61 (early) with an average chance of being competitive 2yo at his level. A rating at this level would not usually be good enough to win this type of race.
