MAY 20th SUMMING UP
|
The last two running of the race have been won by runners with prvious
experience. All eight are on debut here and therefore it is more difficult
to be confident of the level of performances.
Emirates Gold is the second 2yo runner of the season for S Suroor
so we have not got a hndle on how well forward the 2yos are. In 2004 with
a huge increase in 2yos in his stable the earliest debuts were a little
patchy. They soon settled into a pattern of being fit and competent on
debut and being able to place and win if they had ability.
The first debut for the stable was probably an average filly and she drifted
in the market in a not particularly strong race. She lost ground at the
start and never got into her race. This runner has the profile to be a
better type and ought to be more competent.
Asset, Bronzed & Calvera all run for major trainers
who do not target strong debuts and the FTO wins come along with the better
2yos. Their collective record is 3 debut wins from around 45 FTO runs so
far in 2005. If one of them in useful or superior they could win comfortably.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Usually a strong race at the top end although with variable depth of quality.
The race has been won with strong STO performances in the last two runnings
rating around 80.
|
TRAINERS:
|
R Hannon has run three colts in the last two runnings of the race.
Destinate won on his STO at 16/1 in 2004. The previous year he introduced
two 70+ raters including the useful Pinkerton who was the first string
but finished behind Great Game (not unusually for the trainer).
M Tompkins regularly uses the Newmarket maidens to introduce his
2yos although they rarely compete strongly. In 2002 he had a surprise second
in this race with the useful+ Winisk River who won STO and they was bought
by Godoophin.
