MAY 29th SUMMING UP
|
Very similar in profile to the 2003 race with a 3TO runner for R. Hannon
taken on by a range of newcomers. Rapsgate has looked limited to
low 70s rating on her efforts so far and may show only minor improvement.
She looked a little too leggy and light at Windsor and to need time to
muscle up. However, her experience over this 5f trip will make her a difficult
opponent for a newcomer unless she's above average.
The best of the newcomers on profile is La Chunga whose trainer
has had his runners competent on debut and all those with ability have
made the first 5 places without threatening to win. However, her all round
profile and her breeze up background suggest she may be able to compete
well in this group.
Ridgeway Cross's trainer has already had twice the number
of debut wins he had in 2004 in total and his better fillies for particular
owners have tended to go well in this type of maiden. He's never had a
FTO winner with a number of high class 2yos from the sire Cape Cross but
in a moderate to average group on profile she has good prospects to place.

RACE QUALITY:
|
A notable variety of quality in different years. The 2002 race was very
tough and needed a performance rating 85 to win. THe winner won a French
Group 2 race later, the second won a Newbury Listed race & the 3rd
won the new 6f Listed race for fillies at Royal Ascot.
The last two races have been lower quality overall and ratings in the 70s
have been enough to win.
|
TRAINERS:
|
R Hannon has run three very different fillies in the last three
years. In 2002 the 2yo maiden Doris Souter was unplaced in a very tough
edition of the race. In 2003 the 80 rated winner was Our Gamble on her
second run after failing as favourite at Windsor. In 2004 the winner on
debut in a moderate version of the race was Jewel In The Sand on her debut.

SIRES:
|
First season sires Bertolini
(Tara Too) & Mozart
(Rapsgate) have runners.
US based sires Forest Wildcat
(Colourpoint) & More
Than Ready (La Chunga) are represented. It is More Than Ready's
first British 2yo runner. He was a 4.5f winner early in his 2yo season
and a stakes winner over 5f.
