MAY 31st SUMMING UP
|
A moderate edition of the race on profile and any of the first four from
the 2004 race would probably be able to win this version with a little
comfort.
Lord Jack Flash has the best form and has looked the best physical
type of those with placed runs. However, he is unlikely to improve further
and giving weight away does not set a strong standard. It might be good
enough to beat the rest because they aren't an exciting group but this
is the type of race where a longer price surprise wouldn't be too surprising.
Soto has looked a small 'trier' who always plugs on at the end of
his races. It would certainly be irritating to watch him plugging on past
Lord Jack Flash in the last furlong after that runner had set the pace
and looked the winner.
Finding promise amongst the others is not easy and there are the usual
bunch of no hopers from the 'usual suspect' trainers. However, LJF &
Soto don't set a tough standard and 'something' is likely to get in amongst
them. Myttons Pride has had a typically baffling start to
his 2yo career for a trainer who tends not to look as if he has a long
term plan mapped out. He returns after two contrasting runs in a week.
The first of these was a perfectly promising, quiet effort in a tough Newmarket
maiden and it looked like he was being taught to settle. He re-appeared
4 days later at Chester (where his owner likes to have runners) and had
turned into a frantic pacemaker. He was spent before the final furlong
there but has a valid excuse given the too strong pace that was set. He
has the physical review to be able to reach a competitive level here.
None of the newcomers run for trainers noted for strong debuts in a race
where a good debut from a just above average type could cause trouble.
Tabaret has the profile to be able to reach a 70 rating but
not on a normal trainer debut.

RACE QUALITY:
|
A rating between 82-92 is usually required to win the race depending upon
the quality of the group. The race is usually the highpoint for most of
the runners and wins in later better races are unusual.. In 2004 M Channon
had a rare representative and Tournedos developed later in the season to
win a Group 3 5f race.
|
TRAINERS:
|
A number of the main trainers that provide a lot of the quality in the
race do not have runners. M Johnston, D Barron, R Fahey & T Easterby
have no runner. There is also no representation from a major southern stable.
A Berry, C Smith & J Wainwright all regularly run poor
types in the race and account for 4 of the 9 runners.
|
SIRES:
|
First season sires Beckett (Sea
Grain), Bertolini (Tabaret),
& Observatory (Signor
Whippee) have runners.
Second season sire Even Top (Georgia
Jed) has had very few opportunities and has his first 2yo runner.
