Pre-race Summary

JUNE 2nd SUMMING UP
  • A long tail of moderate to poor 2yos and the race should concern the three colts with some promise in their previous runs. Turn Me On runs for a trainer who is well organised and reliable but has not had a 2yo winner yet in 2005. His runners tend to show up to 20lb improvement from debut and he made a good start in that context in a quite fast race at Lingfield. He should show around 10lb improvement.
  • Triskaidekaphobia has the sales rating to be able to rate around 70 and the form of his trainer is a notable positive. He has travelled well in both of his race to date but nothing has happened when he's been required to make an effort to get into the race. That lack of response is a negative and limits his final profile rating.
  • Royal Power has had a long break after fading tamely in two early season races on softer ground after running prominently. He need to find further improvement to be competitive for the win.
  •  Of the others only Our Sheila appeals as being able to approach the level of the first three on profile. Her trainer has had two wins and three places from seven debuts so far and appears to have a good group of 2yos. However, she would need to make a better debut to win this race than all his previous FTO runners than Sir Xaar (and if she's anywhere near his level the market should give a solid indicator).
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • There has not been a corresponding race in the last two seasons. In 2004 the 5f race at the meeting was a Novice.
  • TRAINERS:
  • K Burke normally has a number of early season 2yo winners. In 2005 his first group of four 2yos that debuted by April 12th competed poorly and he then had a break with no runner between 20th April and mid May. He has said in interview that his string was behind the normal schedule.
  • In each season the earliest debuts are usually chosen to be competitive for a win at some level. In that context the early season performances were puzzling. In the last two weeks (2 in the last two days) three of the first 4 debuts have won (City For Conquest, Lindus Atenor & Lucys Lady). Which shows that he was following his normal methods but they were not forward enough to compete at their level. In this period he has also introduced a useful & natural 2yo (Clare Hills) who was a very rare FTO winner for him and won the Hilary Needler two days ago.
  • The remaining member of that group of 4 early debuts who is still a maiden is Triskaidekaphobia who runs here.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sires Arkadian Hero (Sanders Boy), Bertolini (Triskaidekaphobia), Carrowkeel (Crystal Bay) & Primo Valentino (First Among Equals & Myths And Verses) have runners. Only Bertolini has had a winner with 3 individual winners from more than 25 runners.
