April 18th SUMMING UP
|
A slightly better edition of the race than 2005 in terms of depth of potential.
The top eight fillies on profile - down to Tarkamara - have good prospects
of being at least average maiden winner quality and a few should be better
than that. Remember that the 2005 race included Flashy Wings, conditions
race winner Oceans Apart and Listed placed Angus Newz along with three
other maiden winners.
However, as with 2005, predicting the order they will finish in is difficult
because none of the trainers with 'potential fillies' look to get debut
winners. Last year Flashy Wings was so good that she won comfortably and
Oceans Apart managed to stay on to get in front of the minor maiden winners.
If one of the midfield group on the profile - between 56 to 60 - are really
useful then they could win comfortably. Happy Love & Fairfield
Princess come out top of that group assisted by their dam's records
and Isobel Rose is another out of a notable 2yo winning dam. However,
assisted by her trainer's record and a useable, if not sparkling, pedigree
Cosmopolitan Lady has prospects of competing strongly even though
not the best filly in the race.
Happy Love will need to be well above average to win on debut off a normal
trainer preparation but her sales price suggests she ought to be above
average. Tarkamara's trainer had the runner-up last year and his
better 2yos tend to place on debut these days. She is the most expensive
in the field but her pedigree just looks too unsuited to 5f in April. If
she can place, or even win, then with development over 6f+ expected she
ought to be a useful 2yo.
