APRIL 12th SUMMING UP
|
A more difficult race to profile than in the previous 3 seasons when the
R. Hannon, M Bell, J Given & B Hills runners had strong profiles. None
of those trainers has a runner.
The race is normally won by the most ready filly who is also most suited
to 5f. That presents a problem because the majority of those with higher
ratings on profile are not obviously best suited to 5f . The best are probably
Abbielou & Tequila Rose but they are on debut for trainers you cannot
trust to have 2yos competent FTO.
The two fillies that have run have do not have 5f pedigrees. Neither showed
5f speed in finishing second in their races and both looked to have limitations
and to be vulnerable to better types. However their experience and in particular
the professionalism shown by Fusili will be an advantage in a race where
a number of the runners will be inexperienced.
The trainer we should be able to trust to have his filly competent is P
Chapple-Hyam. However his runner is an owner bred and relatively cheap
at the sales.
The other runner of interest is Oceans Apart simply because the dam seems
to do a good job whatever problems she is given, like Desert Prince. However
she would still only be likely to win a moderate+ 5f race on debut and
to need 6f+ later in the season.
In summary none of the runners presents a fully positive profile and the
winning performance is likely to be lower than the previous three seasons
unless one of the runners is suprisingly good and precocious. Fusili &
Glasnas Giant set a low standard and the best of Adeje Park, Oceans Apart
& Abbielou should provide the most opposition.
However, an open race with a rating in the 65-72 range to win on profile
and therefore scope for a longer price place and/or win. [Like the 2002
race if it had not had Wunders Dream in it and Floppie Disk had not been
an out-and-out 5f type.]

RACE QUALITY:
|
The race usually contains a wide variety of ability and often runners that
need further than 5f.
The first two places in 2002-4 have been filled either by some combination
of the best fillies in the race and/or those best suited to 5f sprints.
The winners in 2002-4 have been useful fillies and 5f was their best distance.
They have performed to 75+ rating in winning. The quality of winners in
behind the first two placers is variable but usually are moderate to average
types.

TRAINERS:
|
B Meehan has had a runner in each of the last three races
and two have been useful winners in the season. The more precocious sprinter
of these two was able to win a moderate edition of the race. He introduces
a similar 'cheapish' Doncaster St Leger buy to the fillies in 2003-4.
M Channon has introduced three fillies in the race 2002-3
but these were minor winners at best plus limited owner breds.
P Cole used to race to introduce an owner bred in 2004.
Notable absentee is R Hannon who has run two average winners and a useful
filly in the period 2002-4.

SIRES:
|
First season sires Beckett (Left
Nostril), Bertolini (Abbielou),
Fantastic Light (his first
runner with Peace And Love) & Silvano
(Fusili) have representatives.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Fusili was paddock reviewed at Leicester and was disappointingly
small and lightly built. The positives were that she was neat, mentally
mature and uses herself well in faster paces. She was rated 64 and seen
as being competitive in early season but lacking scope to develop.
Glasnas Giant was paddock reviewed at Warwick and was small and
unlike her sire's better types although with acceptable power behind. She
lacks scope and was fit on debut. She was rated 59 and looked as though
she needs to run early to be competitive.
Angus Newz was reviewed at the sales and rated 68 but with
a well below average chance of being a strongly competitive 2yo because
of her set-up. She was small and averagely built. She had the length and
power behind of her sire's better types but was too weak in front and lacked
size. If she developed well she could be competitive in the 65-72 range.
Flashy Wings was reviewed at the sales and rated 64 and with a below
average chance of being competitive at her level. She was physically immature
at the sales but unremarkable otherwise.
Macs All Heart was seen at the sales and rated 54 and with a very
low chance of being competitive at a low level. She was very small and
lightly built.
