=== Post Race ===

[First Thoughts] Global Applause getting the run of the race being able to get a usable lead on the rail. Strong finish. Bohemian Flame a solid size in the group and able to sit 2R on the rail and benefitted from that. Solid last 2f effort while looking short of Group company level.

With those two getting the best paths through the race on the rail, the others all having issues of various types to overcome. Mehmas breaking left handed from the second widest draw and giving away some ground. Dettori doing the right thing in tucking him away in 2R but off the rail. Mostly settled in behind. Mehmas going as well as GA at 2f out but then having to angle out wide to make his effort. Strong effort to make some ground back in the last 0.5f and would have overlapped GA by the line without the usual Dettori pull-up-early stuff (perhaps it's age, he gets tired before the line). But, Mehmas looking smaller than GA if a faster looking action. On Visual size grounds unlikely to win a typical Coventry. See Twitter exchange below about average Stride Lengths for GA & Mehmas at the bottom of these notes.

Copper Knight Drawn widest and carried wider by Mehmas. Then ran too free out wide and enough excuses there to say he did not run to his level. Jule In The Crown running ok in front rank 1 wide until fading late on.

Chupalla disappointing and looking just an ordinary size in this group 2 months after debut. Perhaps lacking a bit of build and similar to the other filly JITC. Some excuses because she ran at least 2 wide of the rail and never settled. But an early fade out and getting unbalanced once going backwards. Showed an unusual bounding action FTO and that worked fine on a flat AW surface. Perhaps an issue here that it didn't work when the jk was trying to hold her and muddling things. Niggled by halfway and had to use her brief 'effort' to get to disputing the lead by 2f out (GA & Mehmas still 'in hand' and JITC going better). Inclined to knock down the 'High End' view of Chupalla but not give up on her. She must still have that kick she showed on debut when things go right for her and she gets balanced and into rhythm. See if she goes 6f at RASCT or whether she might need a flat track, & perhaps a consistent surface like KTNA. Certainly up to Sirenia Stakes level, say.

Global Applause review – tremendous race which played out as so many do over the 5f Sandown course with the draw perhaps being the decisive factor. There is no doubt that GA and Mehmas are very closely matched, hopefully GA will stay at 5f at Ascot. Unfortunately the lens was smudged for these pictures.

Global Applause – Tallest and most athletic of these I think the size estimate on debut was about right and he is not big, just efficiently built for his size and length at top end of medium. 96

Mehmas – Smaller than GA but still in the mid medium category. Not as physically imposing as I was expecting. Strongly made and well balanced. 94

Bohemian Flame – fitting nicely between GA and Mehmas in terms of length, height and size. Taking in the pre-parade, looked fully fit, well proportioned. Perhaps not the speed of the first two and may want 6f. 90

Jule In The Crown – 3rd time I had seen her and looken in better condition than lto. Just a bit out classed by Global Applause but a strong performance. Just made on a smaller scale than the boys which told late on. Strongly made in her medium frame. 88

Chupalla – A bit more lightly made than JITC, around the same size, looked fit and the word ‘racy’ came unbidden to me. I think this was a suggestion of flashiness, a hint of boxiness at the rear. A bit keen early perhaps not suited by Sandown or not quite race ready after 61 days off. Anyway better than she showed here. 86

Copper Knight – 3rd time I have seen this one too. Size limitations apparent here. Bottom end of medium and if he continues to lug left at the break is probably bound for nurseries but will be too highly rated for his size. A conundrum for his trainer, maybe Chester is ideal. 79
