Boynton review – Although these were expensive types each of the top three in the market has a question mark over them. Not sure there was a group performer here. I have a feeling that the propensity for the MJ horse Montataire to set such a strong pace affected the result here.

Boynton – Big and strong particularly at the front wherein the problem lies, he just looks a bit out of balance front to back. Held his head very high, yet again I have made the mistake of thinking a Godolphin one was not quite fit enough and benefited from not racing with the pace. Certainly had plenty of condition on him so should be more to come. 85

Mutawatheb – Expecting a good one from the Hannons at Goodwood and a bit disappointed. Athletic but tailing off a bit. Full medium size and looked not quite ready. Ran better than his prelim appearance suggested as the market seemed to indicate. Perhaps matching Montataire pace just exposed the lack of full fitness. 81

Rebel De Lope – Medium with decent girth and balanced look to him. Held up off the pace, a bit green and finishing burst probably flattered him as the principals tired. 76

Montataire – predictably big tall MJ type but a bit lacking in rear end development to push the rest of him along. Broken by trying and failing to break Mutawatheb. 77

Challow – Looked fully ready to do his best, medium sized but a bit shorter bodied than Rebel De Lope. Matching strides with the two bigger boys for the first half of the race did for him and faded late. Needs to find a race at a lesser track. 75

Racemaker – Similar model to Challow, lower medium and fattish for a Channon debut. Travelled quite well but got unbalanced when asked to quicken. Not given a hard time. 74

Brise De Mer – Given a rating of 72 on debut and physically probably worth it but as often happens with Mr Baker appears to have regressed since then. Might pop up sometime in a weaker race. 70

Muirsheen Durkin – Looks a bit ewe necked, up behind, heavily made gelding. Was cheap and looks it. Wolverhampton or a seller beckons. 68

Legendoire – Small and fat, I’m beginning to think a lot of Fast Company’s progeny are a bit on the small side. Enough substance not to be a total rabbit and Gallgher likes Goodwood. May come back here and do better. 67
