See the Paddock Review Rating Section on this website for reference. Tropical rock review – a race almost lost by Tropical Rock's jockey, fortunately her quality got him out of trouble. Kelly on Miss Laila for Richard Hughes was determined to bag the rail and shot across from stall 7 cutting up Megan Nicholls on Mumstheword and forcing her to snatch up after about 1f. Miss Laila was not fit and was never going to win this, yet Crowley on Tropical Rock got into a wholly un-necessary pace battle with Kelly on Miss Laila a full 3f out. At this stage they were fully 5 lengths clear of the field and the outpaced Mumstheword was perhaps 10l back. In the last two furlongs as Miss Laila folded TR was left on her own and the one paced but very fit and ok size Mumstheword trundled onwards gaining hand over fist on the now tiring and lonely Tropical Rock. As MTW came alongside Crowley got serious and at the line TR was going away again. A conspiracy theorist might postulate that Hughes and Hannon had out their heads together to try and find a way to get TR beat and they nearly pulled it off. My opinion is that a couple of second rank jockeys rode poorish races and one of them nearly got egg all over his face at the hands of Megan Nicholls. Tropical Rock – When she was walking around the paddock with mostly misfits around her she did not quite assail the senses as I expected. She is just above medium, well made and powerful but just a lingering thought that she might have been best early 90 Mums The Word – Almost as big as Tropical Rock, a bit less power behind and not quite the scope. 74 Moonlit Show – Medium to lower medium. Big chest cavity and some strength throughout but clumsily made and needing to level up. 72 Miss Laila – Lwr medium to top end of small, not fit and an unathletic look to her. Seemed to have some zip and hung on for fourth but what was behind her? 65 Tennessee Rose – Plain type, medium. 54 Topmeup – Bit better made than some of her rivals but tailing off somewhat. Green and not really fit enough to do herself justice. 55 Sweet Pursuit – Neat and ready little girl. Looked fit enough and sufficiently well made to do better than her small size suggested. 55 Ablaze – Awfully put together, light and weak. Waste of training fees. 40 Lemon Drop – Small, weak. 41 Whatalove – More fees wasted 40 |
