Best Of Days review – Hugo Palmed does it again. The fitness of his debutants just seems to be a different level to most of his rivals. Whilst Best Of Days won this very well I am not sure that he beat an awful lot. Wahash is now looking fairly ordinary. Leader’s Legacy looked some way of full fitness and also appeared to lack pace.

Best Of Days – Strong medium build. Athletic and superfit. Showed the same sort of poise in the way he held himself as Escobar, perhaps not quite the scope of that one. One wonders if training to achieve this level of fitness without them seeming over-trained is something Hugo learned from Gai Waterhouse. 90

Wahash – Not developing in a good way. The slight question mark I had over him tailing off toward the back end seemed more justified today. Only medium size and early impression of size mistaken. 79

Sir Nigel Gresley – Medium to lower medium close coupled and strongly made. Well prepared and looking fit enough to run well. 80

Procurator – Ok type, lower medium, deep chested. Close to the same size as Best Of Terms and instructive to look at the way they seem to present in the pictures. The laid back Hannon prep compared with the more tuned Palmer style. 79

Arborist – Not dissimilar to Wahash. Maybe a fraction bigger and still appearing not quite fit. 74

Leader’s Legacy – Best type in pre-parade. Length and depth, may end up a big one. Not looking hard fit as many of SBS’s debutant winners have looked this season. Thought he might just have the quality to run away with this but was not fit enough and also green when asked to keep up early. Might just snap together in an impressive way nto. Inclined to think he is ok. 85+

Native Prospect – Lightly made and looking leggy and needing to strengthen up. 73

Amlad – Perhaps mistook size for potential on debut. A decent sized lump and the charitable opinion would be that he is backward and hard to get fit. Still looking very heavy and more than likely he can’t shift his bulk. Hard to believe he is not a bit better than this. 70

Don’t You Think – I was standing with another paddock reviewer when this one came past unidentified and we both said ‘looks like Hughesies’. He already seems to have a type. Lower medium, chunkyish, a bit fat and sluggish looking without much sheen on them. This one not as bad as he appeared and poor run due to lack of fitness. Jury is out on him as a 2yo trainer at present but judge has the black cap ready. Early days I suppose. 70 for now better later but perhaps as a 3yo.

Netley Abbey – Ordinary looking character, medium with a bit of length but typical underwhelming H Dunlop debut. 67

Poet’s Charm – Green, plainish individual, not take the eye but better than this. 70
