Fastish Looking time but with an approx 13mph Direct Tailwind in the HS. Plus, track traditionally rides fast in early April. Consider these 3 times by David Evans winners of equivalent races to this in April = Limegrove at 58.54s carrying 3lbs more than SClouds. Small ready Evans type filly who ran 18 times at 2yo and won 2 x claimers later in season. FInished 'Turf' season beaten off OR57 having been on OR78 for first Nursery run. Smugglers Gold at 58.77s at same weight. Early season male, narrow bodied and little scope. Ended season winning a seller when probably at OR60s having been OR79 (ludicrous to look at his picture) at his, mythical, peak. Cheerio Sweetie at 59.34s carrying 3lbs more than SClouds. Form tailed off quickly and has been beaten in 3 x 3yo hcaps with OR going down from OR77 to OR70 and presumably in the 60s now. Those times and careers give some context for this race and time and of the view the first two are OR70s handicappers of some sort and Decadent Times has a more scope than the Evans' comparision trio. Watch DTimes debut and he makes a real forward effort with Sutter County on the bend into the HS but then gets tired quickly and passed by Stringybark Creek (won since). DT forced into the lead from the widest draw by Kingscote and having to work hard early to do it. SClouds seeming to be cruising next to him in the HS but DT finding a kick again to mean SC just outlasted him rxing weight. Not convinced SC won "cosily" as some reports said. Stormy Clouds smallish medium and hasn't convined in either run that she is Hannon better type. Looks more like a usable early one who may try Conds, poss even Listed if he has nothing else ready, but end up in nurseries. Worth thinking about the fact that the 2 races MaJo has not won, this one and Stringybark Creek at KTNA, have been won by horses made to look ordinary handicappers by Sutter County & Chupalla. DTimes pulling clear with SClouds here another good effort by a placer from Sutter County's 9L win. Seems likely that, as a group, the 4 x FTO MaJo winners so far are better quality than those in early 2015 (which included a Group 2 winner and a Conds victress). |
