APRIL 14th SUMMING UP
|
A typical race of its type with this probably being the highest class race
that the runners will compete in. None of the runners has the profile to
develop further from this class as the season develops.
Amber Glory has the best profile of the previous winners and Sounds Simla
is the most difficult to place and could rate higher.
Of as much interest as trying to choose between the previous winners is
the first chance of the season to play 'spot the long priced win or place'
from Reg Hollinshead's 2yos.
|
RACE QUALITY:
|
The race is usually the competitive high point for most of the runners.
With limited early season opportunities it regularly attracts a mixed bag
of previous winners from those of poor seller upwards.
The beaten runners rarely include more than the occasional average later
winner and then usually from a trainer list of D Barron, A Berry (before
the stronger decline) and T Easterby. None of these trainers has a runner.
Later Listed winner Needles And Pins was a notable failure on debut in
2003 on firm ground. She returned north to iron out a similar group of
fillies on easier ground three weeks later.
|
TRAINERS:
|
WGM Turner has won the last three runnings of the race with two
useful 80+ rated fillies plus a mulish 65+ type. In the years up to 2003
when he had his string wound-up for the start of the season this meeting
was pretty much the end of the winners for his 2yo year. Which is a long
time until November to be stood in parade rings with owners.
In 2004 he seemed to have got his runners less ready for the start of the
season and got more winners from May onwards. In 2005 he has made a slower
start again and possibly he is trying the same approach.
In previous years he has usually run his best filly in the race.
D Evans has regular runners in the race and these include previous
seller winners.
D Barron is a notable absentee and he has made an unusually slow
start to the 2005 2yo season.

SIRES:

No first season sire has a runner.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Amber Glory was reviewed at the sales and rated 65, with heavy build
on a smallish frame. Neat and athletic and ok for a neat, early sprinter
and a well above average chance of being a competitve 2yo at her level..
Ooh Aah Camara was reviewed on her debut at Warwick and rated 62
and with some size to develop and rate in the 60s.
Hasty Passion 61 was reviewed at the sales with a slightly below
average chance of being a competitive 2yo at her level. Noted as being
rather narrow.
Wizby was reviewed on her debut at Warwick and rated 51 with little
scope to develop. She looked the ready, early, but limited seller winner
she already is.
