Pre-race Summary

The 2003-2004 results are at the bottom of the page for comparison
APRIL 28th SUMMING UP
  • A more promising race ran than it initially appeared. Jaassey, Bowland Bay & Hillbilly Cat have all shown moderate form and it would be surprising to see any of them beat all of the better prospects.
  • Prejudicial showed only moderate form in a slow race but acceptable promise by his trainer's standards. He has good prospects to show improvement to 70+ form.
  • The race is made a lot more interesting by the debuts of Myths And Verses and Memphis Man who both have profiles to be above average.
  • Myths And Verses is the first foal of a mare who won on debut and also the Queen Mary for the trainer. Her owners will be more keen than the trainer that she puts up a 'good show' given that they own her, her mother and stand the Sire and the Grandsire at their stud. Trundling along out the back doesn't seem likely to be allowed.
  • Memphis Man has more of a 'development' sprint 2yo pedigree and his trainer will probably be happy with a promising debut.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • The 5f maidens at the course tend to attract runners from a relatively small range of northern trainers, supplemented by occasional 2yos from southern stables who tend to be lesser types looking for an easier race to win.
  • Therefore the strength of each race is dependent upon the quality of 2yos that a small range of stables have in the season. With earlier races such as this one it also depends how forward certain stables are.
  • This race is a good example having been won by useful types in 2003-4 running for D Barron (no winner in 2005) and B Smart (no runner). With other trainers such as K Ryan, K Burke (no winner) & J Given (no runner) also behind schedule and not represented the race may lack some quality and/or depth.
  • In general the races can range from ratings of 55-75 to win depending upon the quality represented. There isn't a 'standard' race given the variability.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sires Bertolini (Memphis Man) & Primo Valentino (Myths And Verses) have runners. Primo Valentino's runner is owned by the stud where he stands and presumably they will be keen to provide the best 'advertisement' for him.
  • US based second season sire Running Stag (Hillbilly Cat) is represented.
  • Minor sire Foxhound (Tallyhobye & Verite) has made a solid start in 2005 with three 5f winners including a minor conditions race.
