Pre-race Summary

The 2002-2004 results are at the bottom of the page for comparison
MAY 3rd SUMMING UP
  • The 2yos that have run more than once do not include one that has prospects of being a useful type in line with the normal winner of the race.
  • The best of them is likely to be Danjet who has looked a better type than the trainer has run in the race in the last 3 seasons. She was second in a moderate version of the Brocklesby and that race has produced two winners and a runner-up in the last three years. She has a good draw and has looked able to lay up with the likely pace here.
  • The three colts who have won their only race have achieved form below that normally required to win this race. However, they are likely to include the best prospects to improve to the usual level. Strike Up The Band produced the best level of form on debut and has the best draw.
  • The only previous front-runners in the field are Danjet, Lake Hero & Overstayed with the latter two drawn wide. However the runners drawn lower are unlikely to settle for a 'tracking' or midfield position which will make it difficult for Overstayed & Don't Tell Sue to get into the race early.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • A 'decider' between the best of the early season, ready 2yos, supported by a range of other winners. The better quality runners usually come to the fore and outclass the lesser winners.
  • The best types in the race (usually just the winner) can go on to compete in Listed+ races but usually fall short of that standard. The majority of the field will already have completed their 'winning' for the season. They tend to have limited potential to develop and win under penalties or with the inflated Official Ratings they get for their early season wins.
  • Depending upon the quality of the field a rating between 80-90 is usual for the winner and placed horses may rate as low as 70.
  • TRAINERS:
  • A consistent group of trainers target the race with their best early 2yo (if they have one).
  • WGM Turner has declared his Brocklesby runner for the race in the last three seasons. He won the race with Brocklesby winner The Lord in 2002. His runner this year ran at the Brocklesby meeting but not in the Auction race at that meeting.
  • PD Evans has run a filly in the last three races, two were previous winners. Two were his earliest debut runner of the season as was Danjet.
  • P McEntee had the second with in 2002 and an unplaced runner in 2003.
  • B Hills had the second in 2003 with a filly who had been placed in the Brocklesby.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sire City On A Hill (Dusty City) has a runner.
