MAY 4th SUMMING UP
|
An average maiden on profile. Ocean Pride received some support
on debut in a race which developed into a '2f sprint' and didn't tell us
that much about him. He comes out top on profile but sets a standard that
a good debut runner could reach.
Montzando is just about capable of reaching that standard and was
rated higher at the sales than Ocean Pride. His trainer got off to a fine
start to the season and had four debut winners and a second place by the
first week in April. His five debut runners since then have been less competitive.
Partly because they have been less ready types and partly because the general
standard has now raised.
The question to answer with Montzando is why did he not make an early debut
with those five early season winners? His trainer assesses his 2yos and
therefore this one has been held back despite the fact that his pedigree
says he should be an early 2yo. Is he less able than the early runners
or has he just been held up by some minor niggle? If the latter then he
would have prospects to compete with Ocean Pride.
